About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document issued by the State of Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security in response to an open market bid solicitation (26-588IEMA-MGMTA-B-52331) concerning the disposal or proper transfer of radioactive sources.
The solicitation involves 14 Cobalt-60 (Co-60) radioactive sources, model P2608-100, each with an activity of 2.1 millicuries (mCi), and 10 Berthold LB300IRL Type II shielded devices. Clarification was provided that the radioactive sources are currently in storage and not mounted in service. Of the 14 sources, 10 are contained within the shielded devices, while 4 sources remain without shielding or device containment. The source holder devices themselves are not individually serial numbered, though source serial numbers are available. No pricing, set-asides, option periods, or contract award amounts are specified in this questions and answers document.

State of Illinois IL Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security Disposal or Proper Transfer of Radioactive Sources Open Market Bid 26-588IEMA-MGMTA-B-52331 Questions and Answers
Question 1: Are these source/devices in storage or are they still mounted and in service?
Answer: The devices are in storage and are not mounted.
Question 2: Can you provide the source holder serial numbers for the 14 devices?
Answer: While we have the source serial numbers, the source holders themselves are not serial numbered.
Question 3: Item #1 states there are 14 Co-60 Sources, P2608-100, 2.1 mCi each, and Item #2 states there are 10 Berthold LB300IRL Type II shielded devices. Are there a total of 14 devices or a total of 24 separate devices? If there are only (10) LB300IRL shielding devices for 10 Berthold P 2608-100 Co-60 sources, are the remaining (4) Berthold P 2608-100 Co-60 sources contained in any shielded device?
Answer: The radioactive sources (P2608) fit inside the devices. So, while there are (14) sources – there are only (10) of the devices in which to place them. Thus you have (10) devices with sources in them…and (4) sources without devices or any shielding.
