About this file

This is a specifications attachment for an aggregates supply contract with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), identified as RFx 3000026590. The document outlines detailed technical specifications for six categories of rock and aggregate materials required for the contract. Rock 1 specifies #610 Limestone with gradation requirements ranging from 1-1/2" to #4 sieve sizes, a maximum density of 134.8 and optimum moisture of 7.7%, Los Angeles Abrasion Grading A with 29% loss, and zero flat and elongated particles. Rock 2 defines #57 Limestone with gradation from 1-1/2" to #8 sieve sizes, specific gravity measurements, Los Angeles Abrasion Grading A with 27% loss, and 3.5% sodium sulfate soundness loss. Rock 3 specifies Coarse Aggregate No. 1 Limestone (1.5" X 3") with gradation up to 4", specific gravity values, Los Angeles Abrasion Grading A with 29% loss, and 1% sodium sulfate soundness loss. Rock 4 requires Sand/Clay/Gravel Aggregation (Pit Run) with 30% minimum metal content and specified minimum aggregate size, with fine particles required to form a hard, water-shedding road surface. Rock 5 defines Fill Dirt as a 60/40 Clay/Sand/Dirt mixture with Plasticity of 19, while Rock 6 specifies #2 Washed Gravel with size range of 1 to 2 inches and gradation percentages per ASTM C33 standards.

All materials are subject to rigorous ASTM and AASHTO testing standards covering gradation, specific gravity, absorption, Los Angeles abrasion resistance, unit weight, sodium sulfate soundness, and plasticity. The specifications establish minimum quality thresholds and performance characteristics to ensure the aggregates meet LDWF requirements for road construction and maintenance applications. Material quality is to be verified through standardized testing protocols and visual inspection by LDWF personnel where applicable.

Rock 4 Specification Gradation For Sand/Clay/Gravel Aggregation (Pit Run)

Metal Content: 30% minimum with ¼” minimum aggregate size. Aggregates below ¼” in diameter will not count toward total metal.

Fine Particles: Considered as all sand, clay, other soil types, and aggregates below 1/4” shall be of a nature and property that sets up quickly after being spread to form a hard, water-shedding road surface that is not slick. In addition, the material must remain firm and exhibit minimal tendency to for ruts after normal rainfall events. This quality to be determined by LDWF personnel by visual inspection and/or application of water to a freshly spread material.

Rock 5 Fill Dirt Defined as: 60/40 Clay/Sand/Dirt with Plasticity of 19

Rock 6 #2 Washed Gravel Specifications

· Size Range: Generally 1 ½ to 2 ½ inches (ASTM C33).

· Gradation (ASTM C33): 90%-100% passing 2½-inch, 35%-70% passing 2-inch, 0%-15% passing 1½-inch, 0%-5% passing 3/4-inch.
