Page | 1

1. BACKGROUND:

The National Park Service (NPS) constructs and maintains erosion control structures on the shore of Lake Chelan within the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. Various construction projects require the use of crushed rock.

2. DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

The work of this contract requires suppling approximately 1750 tons of 5/8” Minus Crushed Rock delivered to gravel pit at the North Cascades National Park (NOCA) located in Stehekin, WA. NPS will reserve the option for additional purchases in increments of 250 tons.

3. CONTRACT PRICING:

Contractor will complete and submit line item price schedule on page 2.

4. MATERIALS:

Furnish hard, durable particles or fragments of crushed stone or gravel conforming to the size and quality requirements for crushed aggregate material normally used locally in the construction and maintenance of gravel roads. Aggregate will be uniformly graded from coarse to fine and free of organic matter, lumps or balls of clay, and other deleterious material with a maximum size of 5/8” as determined by AASHTO T 27 and AASHTO T 11.

5. LOCATION:

The gravel pit is located approximately 5 miles from the ferry landing and across Harlequin Bridge in Stehekin, Washington, at the north end of Lake Chelan. Equipment gross weight shall not exceed Harlequin bridge weight limits. Crossing the bridge is the only way to access the gravel pit site.

Please refer to page 3 Harlequin Bridge Weight Limits for exact details.

6. DELIVERY:

Contractor will coordinate delivery with Mountain Barge Service for barging rock up lake. Delivery and placement of rock onto the barge deck will be as specified by the barge company. Rock can be dumped directly on the barge deck, and consolidation of dumped piles will be required to reach full barge capacity(250 tons per trip).

The exact delivery date(s) and size of loads shall be coordinated with the barge company:

Mountain Barge Service (MBS) Address: 1222 W. Woodin Ave, Chelan, WA 98816 Phone: 509-682-2493 Email: info@mountainbarge.com

Contractor will then unload, truck, dump, and consolidated rock at the Stehekin gravel pit. Include all delivery and trucking costs to Mountain Barge Service (MBS) in Chelan, as well as trucking and consolidation costs in Stehekin., Phone: 509-682-2493.

7. INVOICING:

Each truckload of materials shall be accompanied by a signed delivery ticket showing the date, product, weight (as determined by a certified scale), and delivery location. The ticket shall be in duplicate. It is the contractor's responsibility to obtain the signature of a barge company representative upon delivery.

Payment will be based on actual quantity delivered.

8. NOXIOUS WEED PREVENTION:

The sources of imported rock, sand, gravel, and soil shall be inspected for invasive non-native plants, weeds, and/or seeds. Diffuse or spotted knapweed or rush skeleton weed are the primary noxious weeds of concern. The material must not be stockpiled at the quarry for more than 1 week after washing. If material comes from older stockpiles, the quarry must be certified weed-free by the County Noxious Weed Coordinator, or a qualified weed inspector designated by NPS. For details on obtaining pit inspections and topsoil specifications, contact Stehekin District Resource Specialist Vicki Gempko (vicki_gempko@nps.gov) and provide at least 14 days’ notice that an inspection is needed. Imported material shall be free of non-native weeds and/or seeds. Imported material shall be shipped directly from the source to the Park without intermediary storage or staging.
