SUMMARY OF WORK

SECTION 01010

SUMMARY OF WORK

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 LOCATION

A. East Ash Fence: Access to the project location can be obtained off East Ash Road. The fence will run along the east side of the road providing easy access and will cross through Sections 21 & 28 of T31N; R50W of Dawes County Nebraska.

B. Chadron Creek Fence: Access to the project location can be obtained off Broken Plow Road. The fence replacement will remain in the same location as the old fence and will mostly run along the road providing easy access. The fence will cross through Sections 1 & 12 of T31N; R49W of Dawes County Nebraska.

C. Bordeaux Creek Fence: Access to the project location can be obtained off FS Road #723. The fence will run along the west side of the road and remain on the east side of the creek, providing easy access. The fence will cross through Sections 26 & 27 of T32N; R48W of Dawes County Nebraska.

1.2 SUMMARY

A. The contractor is responsible for checking the measurement of the line and bringing up any significant difference between the measurement in this contract and what they measured.

B. Work for this project consists of a contractor supplying labor and materials for the construction of a new fence as specified and described below, plus the removal of existing fences as described. The Forest Service shall flag new fence locations:

1. East Ash Fence Construction – the fence construction will begin at the cattle guard on the north end of the fence (refer to the attached map). The fence will run SE for approximately 6,500-ft. There are existing H-braces that will be replaced to meet the specifications on the attached fence drawings.

2. Chadron Creek Fence Construction –this fence will replace the existing fence line and will be built on-line with the existing fence. The fence construction will begin at the NW end of the fence (refer to the attached map) starting at an existing fenceline and head east for approximately 500-ft. This section of fence may be difficult to access. The fence will then run SW for about 3,000-ft. There are existing t-posts and wire from the original fence, all old fence material will be removed by the contractor and thereafter become the property of the contractor to dispose of.

3. Bordeaux Creek Fence Construction – the fence construction will begin at the S end of the fence (refer to the attached map) starting adjacent to the road and vertically above an existing fenceline that runs east to west. The new fenceline will head N and slightly E for approximately 550-ft, along a flat top and through a small drainage, adjacent to the road. In this section, the old fence runs parallel (to the W) and will be removed by the contractor. From the small drainage, the new fence will

01010 - 2 then head W for approximately 215-ft and then NE for approximately 875-ft. This section of fence will be similar to the old fenceline. All existing posts and wire will be removed by the contractor. This section of fence should be relatively easy to access and install. The last section of new fence crosses a steep drainage and heads NW for approximaly 700-ft; portions of this fence may require installing by hand. In this section, the existing fence runs parallel (to the W) and will be removed by the contractor and thereafter become the property of the contractor to dispose of.

C. Work Specifications are listed below (also refer to the attaching drawings and specification sheets).

1. Fence Type: The fence will be wildlife friendly with the following specifications:

a. 3-Wire Fence.

b. Smooth bottom wire spaced 16" above the ground.

c. The middle wire will be barbed and spaced 10" above the bottom wire.

d. The top wire will be barbed and spaced 12" above the middle wire or will be spaced at a maximum of 38" in height.

2. Post Spacing: Posts will be spaced 16' apart.

3. Wire: The wire will be double stranded and a minimum of 12.5G.

4. Barbs: Barbs on wire will be 2-point 14G and will be spaced 4-6” apart.

5. Post Ratio: There will be a maximum of 3 steel t-posts to every wood post.

Unless topography will only allow for steel t-posts which will require the approval of the Contracting Officer (CO).

6. Post Depth: The steel t-posts will be buried at a minimum of 1.5' deep, the wood posts will be buried at a minimum of 2' deep, and corner, gate, and brace posts will be buried a minimum of 3' deep.

7. Line Posts: A minimum of 3”x6’ pressure treated wood posts will be used. A minimum of 5.5’ t-posts with an anchor will be used.

8. Brace Posts: H-Braces material will be 2 3/8" steel pipe with a 0.125" wall thickness and sealed top or a substitute of 5"x7’ pressure treated wood posts can be used. H-Brace materials will be 7' long (or as approved by the contracting officer).

9. Horizontal Brace Material: H-Braces will be a minimum of 7’ in length. The horizontal brace material will be 2 3/8" steel pipe with a 0.125" wall thickness.

10. Number of Braces: Braces are required at every corner, gate, and angle change greater than 15 degrees. Braces should be installed every 1,320-ft intervals or closer if required by industry standard construction.

11. Brace Wire: The #9 smooth wire around H-Braces will be double wrapped at a minimum and attached to the steel brace posts using industry standard for this type of application.

12. Staples & Clips: Fence staples will be a minimum of 1.5" and 9G steel and manufacturer fence clips or 12G wire can be used for steel t-posts.

13. Wire Stays: Wire stays shall be galvanized, twisted wire of a size and thickness that is industry standard for this type of application.

New Gate Construction

1. New gate construction shall be as specified and as shown on the Drawings. Each gate will be installed with a wood post gate stick. The type and style of gate closer

01010 - 3 shall be as shown on the Drawings and/or approved by the Forest Service. The gate closer shall be considered incidental to the cost of building the gate.

a. Refer to the attached maps for the locations of each gate. The Forest Service shall approve the locations of the new installed gates.

b. East Ash Fence: four gates will be installed along the fence line.

c. Chadron Creek Fence: three gates will be installed along the fence line.
