About this file

This document is a Special Project Specification (412) detailing requirements for dust palliative materials, specifically Calcium Chloride Pellets, to be applied to road surfaces. The specification outlines precise chemical composition and particle size requirements for the dust control materials, including a minimum of 94% Calcium Chloride (CaCl2), maximum 3% Total Alkali Chlorides, and maximum 0.3% Calcium Hydroxide. Particle size specifications mandate that 100% of the material must pass through a 3/8" screen, 80-100% pass a #4 screen, and 0-5% pass a #30 screen. The test method R1-412/Cl for verification is available from the USDA Forest Service Regional Materials Engineering Center in Missoula, Montana, with testing conducted according to ASTM E 449 standards.
