About this file

This document is an Item Specification for fabricating a Vertical Inner Liner Assembly and Tube End for the Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold Air Force Base. The specification requires the fabrication of one (1) Inner Liner Assembly (Drawing No. 12-1032 Revision C) and one (1) extra Tube End (Drawing No. 12-1034 Revision C), to be delivered to AEDC in Silver Spring, Maryland. The primary material specified is TZM Molybdenum alloy sheet, with detailed requirements for physical and mechanical properties, including density, melting point, chemical composition, thermal expansion, thermal conductivity, and tensile strength at various temperatures. The specification includes strict packaging and shipping instructions, mandating a wood/plywood crate with screws (no staples), shock labels, and clear fragility markings to protect the delicate components during transportation.

3.1. General:

3.1.1. Seller shall fabricate a quantity of one (1) “Inner Liner Assy – M-14 Vertical” assembly in accordance with Drawing No. 12-1032 Revision C (shown below in Appendix A) and one (1) “Tube End” (extra) in accordance with Drawing No.

12-1034 Revision C. All delivered to Silver Spring MD.

3.1.2. References in the specification(s) to equipment, material, articles, or patented processes by trade name, make, or catalog number, shall be regarded as establishing a standard of quality and shall not be construed as limiting competition.

3.1.3. Fabrication Drawings: Seller shall generate and submit to Buyer a detailed rivet placement diagram or drawing, indicating placement points and size specifications for all rivets used in the fabrication of the liner part. Buyer shall first approve rivet placement prior to fabrication of the part. If the Seller requires any additional drawings to fabricate the part, said drawings shall be submitted to Buyer for approval prior to fabrication of the part.

3.1.4. Vendor shall successfully test fit the 12-1034 Tube Ends into the receiving collet of the furnished base tube 12-1031 with all 6 furnished 12-1036-1 (TZM) and 6 12-1036-2 (Tungsten alloy) pins installed. The Inner Liner Assembly 12-1032 shall be delivered to AEDC with one of the 12-1034 Tube Ends and six pins of 12-1036-1 and six pins of 12-1036-2 assembled per drawing 12-1032.

3.1.5. The finished liner parts shall be shipped to AEDC in Silver Spring, Maryland, encased in a crate constructed primarily of wood and/or plywood with removable top and which shall be palletized to allow handling with a forklift. The crates shall be constructed with screws - WARNING: the use of staples is not permitted.

The shipping crate shall completely enclose the part and prevent unaided viewing or accessing of parts through the walls of the crate. The liner parts shall be packaged within the crate to reasonably prevent undue movement, distortion, vibration, shock, scratching and marring, during shipping. The fragile nature of the part shall be visibly and clearly marked on the outer surface of the shipping crate. Wording such as “fragile - shock prone contents” or equivalent shall be used. Vendor shall install at least two shipping shock labels on the crate .

4. VERIFICATIONConformance Certifications

4.1.1. Materials:

A. Seller shall furnish Buyer with written material Certification of Compliance or copy of a Mill Test Report for the part confirming the “TZM” Molybdenum alloy offered. Seller shall also provide certificate that sheet TZM material complies with ASTM B386 (Plate, Sheet, Strip, and Foil).

TZM Rivets shall be furnished in accordance ASTM B387 (Bar, Rod, and Wire) or to best prevailing commercial material standards.
