About this file

This document is a Specification Document for a federal contract opportunity, providing details on the procurement of an 8-Chamber Multiplexer (Brand Name LI-COR 8250 or Equal) with an 8250-02 extension manifold and flask sampling option.

The primary objective is to enhance the research capabilities of the USDA-ARS Conservation & Production Research Laboratory (CPRL), Livestock Nutrient Management Unit (LNMRU) by increasing the maximum number of chambers per study to 30 and allowing a laboratory study and a field study to be conducted simultaneously. The contractor must provide a complete flux chamber sampling system that meets the specified technical requirements, including integration with the existing LI-COR 8250 multiplexer, LI-COR 8250-01 extension manifold, LI-COR 8100A flux chambers, and compatible trace gas analyzers. The required delivery date is November 1, 2024, and the procurement will be a firm-fixed-price purchase order. This is an unrestricted procurement with no small business set-aside.

Specification Document

General Information:

Background and Purpose:

The primary mission of the USDA-ARS Conservation & Production Research Laboratory (CPRL), Livestock Nutrient Management Unit (LNMRU) is to research environmental impacts of livestock production and to develop ways of improving animal health and maximizing production while mitigating environmental impacts of the industry. A significant aspect to this research is the study of greenhouse gas emissions from soil, pen surfaces, and manure.

The LNMRU has a LI-COR 8250 multiplexer and a LI-COR 8250-01 extension manifold which is used to automatically sample emissions from multiple flux chambers in the field or multiple laboratory-scale closed chambers. The current maximum capacity is 15 chambers/study. The purchase of an additional LI-

COR 8250 multiplexer and a LI-COR 8250-01 extension manifold would greatly enhance the research capability of the LNMRU by 1) increasing the maximum number of chambers per study to 30, and 2) allow a laboratory study and a field study to be conducted simultaneously.

CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS:

2. Technical Requirements/Tasks: The objective is to procure a flux chamber sampling multiplexer/manifold system with at least control 15 ports. The proposed system must integrate into existing system, and sample closed-chamber flux devices. Specifically, the system must continuously circulate air through all closed chambers while still being able to sample one chamber at a time. In the LI-COR design, this is accomplished by the “Flask Sampling Kit” option.

Contractor Requirements:

1. Proposed system must be able to control at least 15 ports. One port is an air sample in, an air sample out and the electrical connection to connect a LI-COR 8100A Digital Flux Chamber (8-pin Turck connector).

2. System must integrate with current equipment in use, i.e., LI-COR 8250 multiplexer, LI-COR 8250-01 extension manifold, LI-COR 8100A flux chambers, Picarro and Los Gatos trace gas analyzers.

3. System must be compatible with both closed-chamber flux systems and flux chambers that mechanically open when not being sampled. The closed-chamber system must be able to always circulate air through all the chambers to prevent the buildup of emission gases, but also be able to redirect sample flow to the analyzer from one chamber at a time.

System must be user programmable, user defined sampling sequence, purge timing, sample timing, path length etc. and compatible with existing LI-COR software.

Product Specifications:

1. LI-8250 8-port Multiplexer (1EA)

2. 8250-01 8-port Extension Manifold (1EA)

3. 8250-660 Flask Sampling Kit (2EA) installed.

4. 9982-081 Thermistor cable assembly (2EA)
