Specifications for

Portable (CMM) Laser Tracker at

Arnold Air Force Base, TN Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC)

Expected Delivery Date: 45 days after date of award.

AFRL/RQHX plans to purchase one portable, high accuracy 6 degrees of freedom Laser Tracking System (Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM)), specifically a FARO Laser Tracker Vantage (Item 810-000055-000). This FARO Precision Portable Laser Tracker will become an integral part of the Research Lab to efficiently obtain precise measurements of the Tunnel D nozzle contour and to ensure that test articles are design to appropriately fit historical equipment. It will be used to accurately record nozzle contour positions between tests, measure historical hardware and determine the tolerances on new hardware.

These measurements will provide precise data that will allow the lab to determine the required nozzle contour positions for specific Mach numbers. Using its advance tracking capabilities, it will allow the degraded old hardware to be effectively replaced by new hardware. This laser tracker and probe will obtain measurements that cannot be gathered as effectively or accurately for the same price using other methods. This device and method of recording measurements it precise and repeatable, which is vital for this research lab and the government and commercial groups it collaborates with. Obtaining accurate measurements is necessary to produce reliable results that can be used in research papers.

Provide all materials, labor, and equipment necessary to provide a new fully functional FARO Laser Tracker (Portable CMM). Refurbished or re-manufactured machine or parts are not authorized for this requirement.

o Range: 2.5m to 15m (8.20ft to 49.21ft).

o Data Output Rate: 1,000 measurement points per second.

o Battery Life: 2-4 hours for continuous use, typical 8+ hours.

o Roll: 360 Degrees.

o Pitch: 15 Degrees.

o Yaw: 15 Degrees.

o Active Seek: Yes.

The Laser Tracker shall have the ability to integrate with a CMM Scan Arm to a single coordinate system with a Spherical Mirror Reflector (SMR) target mounted directly on the CMM Scan Arm.

o This integration and process shall require no external tooling or fixtures outside of a high accuracy SMR target mounted directly on the CMM arm.

The Laser Tracker shall have a data output rate of at least 1,000 points per second, while providing feedback for high-speed motion control and high-density scanning.

The Laser Tracker shall have the ability to remotely power on/off and schedule warm-up to improve workflow by making the Laser Tracker ready for immediate operation when the user begins measuring.

The Laser Tracker shall have a quick compensation feature that optimizes measurements based on specific ranges to maintain high system accuracy.
