About this file
This is an amendment to a Request for Proposals (RFP 17915) issued by the City of Boston, Massachusetts, for the purchase of 71 passenger school buses equipped with internal combustion engines. The amendment updates the proposal timeline for the procurement. A Q&A conference call is scheduled for September 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. EDT via Zoom, with a deadline for submitting written questions by September 15, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. EDT, to be directed to drosengard@bostonpublicschools.org. Consolidated Q&A responses will be posted by September 22, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. EDT. The deadline for proposal submissions is September 29, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. EDT, with submissions accepted via Boston's Supplier Portal or hard copy only; electronic submission through the Supplier Portal is strongly preferred, and all PDF files must be text-recognizable rather than photocopies. Vendor demonstrations are scheduled for October 6–8, 2026, and the contractor is expected to be selected by October 23, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. EDT.
The buses must accommodate 71 students with appropriate seating space and weight capacity, and delivery is due October 4, 2026. The not-to-exceed budget is $4,125,000, funded through the City's annual local school bus budget and potential State and federal grants. Boston operates approximately 750 school buses and is committed to fleet electrification by 2030; however, due to an aging fleet and reduced federal funding, the City is procuring internal combustion engine buses to maintain reliable service. The City will evaluate technical and price proposals separately prior to award, and bidders must comply with all City of Boston Standard Contract General Conditions, including provisions on performance, insurance, non-discrimination, prevailing wage compliance, CORI policy standards, and debarment certifications. Thirty-three buses will be delivered to BPS Administrative Offices at the Main Bolling Municipal Building, 2300 Washington Street, Boston, Massachusetts.
