DRAFT Statement of Work for Dome Visual System

March 15, 2022

Introduction

This document defines the requirements, performance, delivery, setup, and testing for a Dome Visual System to support the flight simulators at the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) Human Factors (AAM-510) Research Laboratory Flight Deck Simulator Program. The Division is constructing additional laboratory space for flight simulator research at the CAMI building. This permanent mounted Dome Visual System will be part of the installation of the new laboratory space.

Background The purchase of this Dome Visual System is part of the Aerospace Medical Equipment Needs (AMEN) Sustainment 3 acquisition program, which was established to continue to provide urgent upgrades to the aging and obsolete laboratory equipment at CAMI. AMEN 3 is a continuation of AMEN 1 and 2. AMEN 3, a non-NAS acquisition effort, is a Variable Quantity ACAT-5. Final Investment Decision (FID) for AMEN 3 was approved on November 20, 2019.

The Dome Visual System supports flight deck human factors research concerning advanced displays, aircraft controls, communication procedures, pilot capabilities, and training requirements. The Flight Deck team conducts research activities in response to requirements generated through the AVS Research, Engineering, and Development requirement processes. The research accomplished assists operational units within the agency with the ability to answer human factors questions necessary to support or enhance certification, development, administrative, or operational decisions.

The department purchased two new simulators in 2021; the Dome Visual System will be a shared asset across these and potentially other flight simulators. The contract is expected to be firm fixed price.
