Parks Creek Road Paving Questions and Answers Document Version 1: May 4, 2015 2:00PM Pacific Time Any additional questions will be added to this list.
Q1. The outside half of the road is sunken, and may require extra base. Is there going to be material on site to bring the grade up, if needed?
A1: The Forest Service is digging these areas up and repairing the subgrade and stabilizing the slopes.
The existing asphalt surface will be removed before work is started. The Forest Service will do all of the repairs and place base rock. No extra material will be required. The Contractor will be required to perform the final shaping and compaction before the Contractor paves. There will be enough material for the Contractor to use for placing the shoulder backing.
Q2. In the contract documents, it speaks about final shaping. Is the USFS going to remove and dispose of the existing chip seal?
A2: All of the chipseal in the repair areas will be removed, base will be placed. No extra material will be required. See the answer to question 1.
Q3. Are there going to be compaction tests, and if so is the contractor responsible for the cost of this?
A3: The Contractor is required to perform all compactions testing at their expense. The costs associated with that should be included in the respective quote item.
Q4. Why is the contract starting September 1st?
A4: The Forest Service in going to remove the chipseal, perform slope stabilization, and place the base material with in-house labor. Due to scheduling the Forest Service is unsure when this work will be completed. The contract has a tentative start date of September 1st to be sure the Forest Service work will be completed. It is anticipated that the Forest Service may finish the work early and the Contractor will be able to start before that date, but that is not guaranteed.
