Questions & Answers
1. What type of landscape rock will be used?
Answer: This is in the drawings on page L0.1 and also in the Specifications.
2. Can the asphalt be milled and used as base?
Answer: Yes, this is acceptable practice.
3. Can the concrete on the south side of the building be left in place and poured over?
Answer: No, we want this material removed and a new base placed due to the variation in elevations of the existing sidewalk.
4. The water system under the manhole – is it piped or an open system?
Answer: The water at the manhole is in a culvert and is gravity fed north to south through the city of Gunnison. It is subterranean and the irrigation water will be pulled from this sump location below the manhole cover. There is a drawing of this in the plans on page L3.1. The hole in the manhole cover will be cut by the city to accommodate the inlet pipe to the pump installed by the Contractor.
5. The contract states that removal and replacement of the Radio Tower needs to be coordinated with the COR. Is it expected that this tower will need to remain in place as long as possible and replaced in an expedited fashion?
Answer: The Forest Service will remove the antenna and put it on the roof of the building on a temporary mount through construction. Once the tower is reset by the Contractor, the Forest Service will replace the Antennae on top of the tower.
6. For staging equipment and vehicles, will the facility parking lot be an option? It is expected that the front curb (West side curb) will remain free of construction vehicles as much as possible, but will the other side be available for equipment?
Answer: This is addressed in the Specifications under Section 011400 WORK RESTRICTIONS Part 1.1 Use of premises.
7. Will access to the building from the west side (front) be expected to be open to the public for the entire project?
Answer: Yes.
8. Please provide more specifics on the lighting for the kiosk?
Answer: The lighting specifications should have all of the details. If you have a specific question, we can forward it to our Electrical Engineer.
9. Please provide clarification on the concrete placement on the south sidewalk. Referring to page 29 of the drawings, Item A/C2.4 was examined to determine a portion of the building column supports would in fact be under grade and steel plates would be welded on all exposed holes to prevent water from entering any voids?
Answer: The elevation of the concrete on the structural members will be determined by meeting the contract requirements for slope of grade away from the building and building the curbs as shown on the drawings. The exact height will be the minimum height needed to meet contract requirements. Covering existing holes with welded steel will only be necessary below the new finished grade.
