Clarifications to questions asked during the Dry Canyon ARRA Project site visit on 27 Jan, 2010

1. Correction to the Summary of Work: Part 1, 1.1- B - 2a: Provide and install one 36” x 16’ culvert. Drawings and specifications refer to a 36” culvert.

2. All boulders for this project are Government Furnished and are located at the rock pile as shown on Sheet #3. Boulders within the project area, that were originally intended as barriers and fill the requirements of the specifications, may be relocated and placed per the drawings. Contractor will not leave the immediate project area. There is a 10 foot limit, from either side of the roadbeds and parking areas, that the contractor will be able to retrieve boulders, unless approved by the COR. All boulders, required for Option #2, will be from the rock pile, as shown on Sheet 3.

3. A section of roadway, approximately 100 ft long, will need additional base course to bring the roadbed up out of a wash. Estimated 88 cubic yards of compacted base will be required. Incorporate this cost to Line Item #5 in the Schedule of Items, Road Reconditioning.

4. Change to the Summary of Work: Camping will be permitted for security reasons.

5. Bollards will be constructed from ‘sound’, 4” schedule 40 steel pipe. Pipe may be previously used but will have to be approved prior to installation. The contractor will submit a sample, 2’ section of pipe, to the COR.

6. Where Mesquite Bush is encountered during the widening of the parking areas, the contractor will follow the Road Reconditioning specification. Scarify 6” in depth, brush that is removed can be scattered on site. Contractor will not be responsible for re-growth of brush.

7. A 30 foot section of road, near the corrals, has water running across from a leaking hydrant. This section shall receive a ‘dip’ and be treated as a low water crossing.

8. Option #2: Contractor may incorporate the cost, for minimal repairs to Forest Service Road 9334, to Option Items 14-16. These repairs are only what the contractor feels necessary to make safe passage for the equipment required to accomplish the work in Option Items 14-16. Any additional material needed will be brought in from an approved outside source. The work will be restricted to the existing road prism and the contractor may be required to return the road to its original condition, at no additional cost to the government.

9. Option #2 – Line 16: General debris in the area consists of items such as: old computers, televisions, broken glass, cans, bottles, and house hold items. There are no known hazards, such as asbestos. If the contractor does encounter any hazardous material, they shall cease work in that area immediately and notify the CO.
