| Text1: An instrument is needed in the Nutrition and Environmental Management Research Unit to measure both oxygen consumption and and energy use, in real time, in fresh cellular mitochondria preparations. |
Cost=$32,909.73 Text2: Agilent Technologies, Inc Instrument Online Sales 2850 Centerville Road Wilmington, DE 19808
| Text3: A thorough study of known vendors that sell this kind of equipment was conducted through a web search, as well as, conversations with sales representatives. The Seahorse XFp, produced and sold exclusively by Seahorse Bioscience (A subsidiary of Agilent Technologies, Inc), is the only instrument available that is capable of measuring both oxygen consumption and energy use (glucose, glutamine, or fatty acids) simultaneously in fresh mitochondrial preparations. Our research in feed efficiency has led to a need to measure muscle mitochondrial efficiency and flexibility. This can only be done on fresh mitochondria preps, thus a simultaneous assay for both measures is needed. | |
