BIDDING & CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS
Addendum No. 1
DATE: 3/31/2010
United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service
Bailey Edward Design, Inc.
35 E. Wacker, Suite 2800 Chicago, IL 60601
SUBJECT: ADDENDUM NO. 1 TO THE BIDDING DOCUMENT FOR:
GREENHOUSE 400 /401 – REPLACE GLAZING SYSTEM
USDA-ARS
CEREAL DISEASE LABORATORY
ST. PAUL, MN 55108
RFI QUESTIONS:
1. Div. 1 Gen Req’s, section 1.1: All work is to be completed by Sept. 1, 2010.
During today’s walkthrough, Omar, from Bailey [Edward] Design indicated many times that the intention was work would be coordinated with other contractors onsite doing work under a different contract (HVAC & Mechanical). Please confirm when this contract is to be awarded and when the contract re: HVAC and Mech is to be awarded.
Response: See Clarification Item 1
2. Div 8, 08 80 10-3, section 2.2 Sealant We are not sure Tremco Spectrum 2 is a sealant approved by the Acrylic glazing mfg.
What is the mfg approved sealant for the type of Acrylic? (mfg is Evonik Degussa Cyro).
Response: See Addendum Item 1.
3. Div 8, 08 80 10-4, section 3.2: Vent Panels This section states to disconnect all vent motor wiring before replacing vent glazing.
Please explain, or confirm this is in error, since there is no need to remove the vent motor to replace the glazing.
Response: See Addendum Item 2.
4. Div 8, 08 80 10-4, section 3.3: Field Quality Control Does the greenhouse leak now?
What are these test listed, ASTM E331 and ASTM 547, and do they have anything to do with greenhouse acrylic glazing?
Please provide these test requirements.
Who will be conducting these tests?
Response: See Clarification Item 2.
00201-2
5. Div 13, 13 34 13-4, section 2.2 Drive Shaft During today’s pre-bid walkthrough, the USDA-ARS CDL greenhouse representative stated the reason they are asking for new vent drive systems is that the existing drive shaft diameter is no longer available and vent operators that work with this drive shaft diameter are no longer available.
The specs are calling for the same diameter size as is currently installed (1.625”). Rough Brothers would recommend using a drive shaft diameter which is commonly used in this application and vent operators components (pinions and shaft hangers) can be easily obtained. This shaft diameter is 1.3125”. Please confirm this size is acceptable.
Response: See Addendum Item 3.
6. Div 13, 13 34 13-1, in bid options #2 & #3, section 1.3 and 1.4 Replacement of screens Specs refer to ‘replacement of side vent screens and frames. The existing screens are screwed into the greenhouse structure with screws. Rough Brothers would recommend installing one screen to include aluminum ½ H channel in a manner to allow USDA to easily remove the screen frames for required cleaning and maintenance. The specs nor dwgs indicate this installation method. Please confirm new screens are to be attached as old screens are currently attached. (if not, detail dwgs would be required).
Response: See Clarification item 3.
7. Drawing Sheet E-200, Plan notes #6 regarding Bid Option #5 Replacement of sidewall vent operating system – Please provide detail drawings. It is Rough Brothers’ understanding from viewing site conditions today, that installing vent drive and rack and pinion vent operators on the interior of the side vent, will not work.
Response: Addendum Item 4
8. Installation of new vent motors It was stated by the A/E firm representative many times in today’s pre-bid mtg that any new vent motors are to be installed and wired into existing wiring and any new control wiring and line voltage would be covered under another contract (HVAC and Mech.).
Please confirm.
Response: See Clarification Item 4.
9. Drawing Sheet E-100 States that contractor is to pay for all fees, connections charges, permits, and inspections.
Please confirm fees, permits, and connection changers are required in federal properties .
(i.e. this project).
Response: See Addendum Item 5.
CLARIFICATION ITEMS:
1. The bidding of the job should not be based on any coordination of work required under separate contract. The bid should only reflect the scope shown in the Drawings and Specifications for this project.
2. To our knowledge, the greenhouses do not leak.
