Forest Service Attendees: Jon Van Massenhove; Chris Stinson; Roy Mitchell and Denise Murphy Hard Drive Marine Attendees: Tom Day and Glen Airoldi Metal Craft Attendees: Jeremy Neff and Bob Clark

Reviewed the topics listed on the first page.

Question #1: What is a good deadrise for Forest Service operations? Deadrise is a compromise—draw between shallow operations and smooth operations in rough seas.

FS Answer: Forest Service does not have a specific number. The design intent is the ability to operate the vessel in shallow water. Forest Service is leaving the final number for the deadrise up to contractors to know what will fit.

Question #2: Describe what will be carried in the heaviest loads. Are the items tall?

FS Answer: The heaviest loads will be lumber. Nothing tall or high.

Question #3: Define shallow operations.

FS Answer: shallow operations means 3’ of water.

Question #4: What is bottom like?

FS Answer: mix of small and large cobbles, silty sand. Try and not beach on large cobbles.

Question #5: What is plate thickness?

FS Answer: Plate thickness is called out on page 12 in specification list.

FS Comment: Forest Service wants this boat to last 20 years.

Question #6: Regarding the four (4) water tight chambers. Are they intended for stability? Better known as one compartment damage stability? Is that the intent?

FS Answer: Yes, the design intent was for one compartment damage stability.

Question #7: Max beam of 10’ called out in specifications.

FS Answer: Yes, that is because the boat will be trailered through the Whittier Tunnel. The FS is looking for room. Efficiency is the idea. Final beam is up to the designer; however, the max is 10’.

Question #8: The Whittier Tunnel has provisions for wider widths.

FS Answer: We are aware of that; however, it is more expensive to go that way.

Question #9: Does FS want wider side decks?

FS Answer: Do not need a walk way around the cabin. Want wide cabin interior for people and equipment.

Question #10: What is expected for the seat benches in the cabin?

FS Answer: The design intent is to seat as many people as possible in the cabin.

Question #11: The conceptual drawing shows a back deck. How will that be utilized?

FS Answer: The design intent of the back deck is to allow for rear motor and swim step access. It can be smaller to buy more space for the cabin or cargo area. FS does not intend to transport or store equipment on back deck. Want access to back through door in cabin. Do not want to have to walk on gunnel to get to back deck.

Question #11: Question about insulated cabin. Does FS want teak or oak trim?

FS Answer: The teak or oak trim should not have been included in the specification list (removed from specification list). FS wants a material that will not collect condensation. The boat is operated in a very damp environment. Specification changed to read mold resistant carpet in place of teak or oak trim.

Question #12: Regarding the electric fans mounted to ceiling in the cabin. What kind of fan is expected?

FS Answer: Small oscillating fans that rotate –oscillating added to specification sheet.

Question #13: How will the davit be utilized? What is desired reach of the davit? Does FS want two mounts for davit?

FS Asnwer The davit will be used to lift skiff out of water and put on roof of cabin and for emergencies to life a person out of the water. The FS would like a reach of 32”. The FS would like two mounts---additional information added to specification list.

Question #14: There is no reference in the specs regarding the stainless steel hardware. Does FS expect domestic 316 stainless hardware?

FS Answer: Reference the contract clauses that are applicable to the resulting order. 52.225-3 Buy American Act-Free Trade Agreements – Israeli Act (May 2014), Alternate III (May 2014) is applicable to this requirement. All materials used shall be in accordance with the clause in the contract. The Forest Service requests hardware that will not corrode or rust—additional information added to the specification list.

Question #15: Are mechanical air ride seats oaky?

FS Answer: Yes, mechanical air ride seats are requested –specification sheet updated to include this information.

Question #16: Are the batteries going to be utilized a lot? ABYC specifications are not incorporated or referenced in the specifications for installation of the batteries.

FS Answer: Yes, the Forest Service intends to use the batteries a lot—specification updated to include reference to ABYC specifications.

Question #17: Gunnel height requirement is minimum 40”. Is that height specified for safety reasons?

FS Answer: The design intent for calling out a 40” gunnel height, in the specifications, was to maximize personnel safety while balancing breakers and wind effect. If lower gunnel is proposed, the proposal submitted shall describe differences from 40” gunnel if lower gunnel is proposed. Describe if safety rail will be utilized.

Question #18: Page 14 calls out stern rooftop extension to cover rear deck. Does FS still want extension if back deck is shortened?

FS Answer: Negative. If the back deck is shortened, the rooftop does not need to be extended out— clarification included in specification.

Question #19: Does the cabin roof need to be a certain length for kayaks?

FS Answer: Negative. The cabin roof does not need to be a certain length for kayaks. Do not want a fairing on the front of the roof. Want full beam roof with space to allow for kayaks to be secured to the roof.

FS asked if attendees had any questions about the propane deck storage. The photographs provided are an example only. They show dive tank storage. Intent is to have something similar. Specifications corrected to show the number of tank holders to be installed—should only be four (4). Can be configured all four on one side or two on each side. Location dependent on deck design.

Meeting ended at about 11 am.
