SEADC Door Replacement Pre-Proposal Questions
June 30, 2017
1) Electrical – There is no electrical section in the specs. Do the double doors requiring the automatic operators currently have a dedicated circuit available for power in these locations? Is there an existing automatic operator in these locations?
2) Bid form (page 4 of SF 1442 document) – Please define what is meant by ‘model to be submitted in proposal’ after sub-items A, B, and C. Does this mean you are looking for manufacturer/model data for each door and respective hardware?
3) Spec 08 1613 – Will approved equals be accepted for the fiberglass doors, or is the Special-Lite brand door/frame required?
4) Paint – Is there information on the existing door paint colors, or should this be a color match from an existing sample? Are there any specifications you are requiring the contractor to meet regarding painting/finishing?
5) Hardware – On sheet 5 of 6 in the plan set, the door schedule indicates a ‘Hardware Group’ for each door. The different hardware groups are not referenced in the specs. Please advise.
Response
1. There are no existing automatic openers for the front door. Contractor is required to install automatic openers as specified to both sets of main exterior doors. For each set of doors, the automatic openers shall open one of the doors as specified by the Contracting Officer.
Contractor is required to run conduit up through the ceiling back to the closest panel. The closest panel is approximately 50 feet from the location of the new automatic door opening systems. Forest Service personnel is available to assist in planning the electrical tie-in but the contractor is required to perform all work. All building modifications must be approved by the Contracting Officer.
2. The existing doors for the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center all had the same manufacturer and model. This is acceptable for the proposed design. However, if desired, the contractor can specify different door manufacturer/models for each of the 3 door types listed on page 4 of the SF-1442 solicitation.
For each door type, please submit in proposal:
a. Door Manufacturer and Model
b. Door Hardware Set (Only if different than what is listed in the table in Section 3.2 A of the SEADC Door Replacement Specifications)
3. Special-Lite AF-100 Pultruded door is an ‘in-kind’ replacement of existing doors for the SEADC discovery center. Another door selection can be proposed in the bid package but is subject to approval by the Contracting Officer.
4. Contractor shall supply the following paint for this project:
a. Exterior Face of Door (Exposed to Moisture)
Brand: X-O Rust Type: Oil-Base Enamel (Gloss) Color: CM-Green
b. Interior Face of Door and Jamb Faces of Door (Not exposed to Moisture) Brand: X-O Rust Type: Oil-Base Enamel (Gloss) Color: CM-Maroon
Contractor shall apply a base coat and at least one additional coat of the specified paint to newly installed doors. No primer is required for newly installed doors. Ambient temperature range shall be 50° F to 90° F during painting. Substitutions of paint brand or color must be approved by the Contracting Officer prior to application.
5. Contractor will purchase and install new hardware based on Section 3.2 A of the SEADC Door Replacement Specifications. The information in Sheet 5 and 6 of the SEADC Door Replacement Plans pertains to the existing SEADC doors and is for information purposes. Newly installed hardware should be installed to the manufacturer’s specification.
