b. Keep concrete continuously moist for seven (7) days, and prevent rapid drying at the end of the curing period. Curing may be accomplished by one of the following methods.

(1) Use curing compounds conforming to ASTM

Specification C 309-5B, Type I. Do not use compounds on any surface which will receive additional concrete.

(2) Use non-staining polyethylene film and keep all joints weighted to prevent wind penetration.

10. Finishing:

a. A rubbed finish shall be given to all exposed walls above finish ground line. Fins and other projections shall be carefully removed and damaged places re-paired. After all required patching, cleaning, and correction of major imperfections have been completed, the concrete surface shall be rubbed with cement or carborundum bricks and water, leaving the surface uniformly smooth and clean.

b. Slabs - The Contractor will slope all concrete slabs in a manner to prevent the collection of water.

03300-9

1. Slabs and horizontal surfaces shall have a steel trowel finish unless specifically otherwise specified or directed by the Engineer.

2. All high areas shall be refloated to a uniform, smooth granular texture.

3. The finish surface shall be free of any trowel marks, uniform in texture and appearance. Floor surfaces not sloped as shown on the drawings shall be planed to a tolerance not to exceed 1/8-inch in 10 feet in any direction. Any surface defects of sufficient magnitude shall be removed by grinding.

c. Spreading dry cement for finishing will not be permitted.

11. Backfilling:

a. Walls shall not be backfilled for a minimum of ten

(10) days after placement, or until the concrete has reached 70% of its 28-day compressive strength as determined by cylinder break tests.
