About this file

This document describes a requirement for a lightweight asphalt tester device. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineer Research and Development Center is seeking a Zorn LWD Asphalt Tester Device under solicitation number W912HZ23Q4082. The device must use a 10 kg drop weight with 20, 30, or 50 mm stamp plates for testing asphalt pavements. It must also integrate temperature data collection and meet specific requirements for drop weight, drop height, force, pulse time, and stamp size. The device should include features such as a deflection measuring printer, power supply unit, carrying case, software compatible with Windows 95 or later, a car battery recharge cable, an SD card for data transfer, and GPS integration. The selected product will be shipped to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Description of Requirement

LWD Asphalt Tester Device

Purpose and Scope

Currently, the Airfields and Pavements Branch (APB) team relies on performing the falling weight deflectometer (FWD) as a nondestructive testing method for airfield pavement evaluation. While the FWD is a very robust piece of equipment that has been widely used for decades, access to this evaluation tool is limited at contingency environments. Nonetheless, contingency mission planners require information regarding the pavement structural condition to properly strategize aircraft operations. Therefore, the APB has been investigating pavement evaluation tools, specifically field asphalt tester devices, that can be readily implemented to assess the structural condition of airfield pavements. As such, the ZORN AT 3000 has been identified as a potential portable and practical pavement evaluation tool. This portable evaluation tool is a lightweight asphalt tester (LWD AT) device designed to determine the structural condition of flexible pavements, specifically the asphalt concrete layer, in terms of dynamic modulus.

Requirement

The LWD AT Device uses a 10 kg drop weight with 20, 30, or 50 mm stamp plates for testing freshly paved and existing asphalt pavements. The LWD AT Device also includes integrated temperature data collection into the electronics box at the time of the test.

The LWD AT Device shall meet the following requirements.

1. Drop weight – 10 kg

2. Drop height – 50 cm

3. Force – 10.6 kN

4. Pulse Time – 17 ms

5. Stamp Size – 20, 30 or 50 mm

The LWD AT Device shall include the following features:

1. Deflection measuring (recording) printer

2. Power supply unit

3. Carrying Case

4. 10 kg drop weight

5. Software (for Windows 95 onwards)

6. Car battery recharge cable

7. SD card for data transfer to PC

8. Print out from SD card

9. GPS Integrated

LWD AT Device shall be shipped to:

U.S Army Corps of Engineers 3909 Halls Ferry Road Vicksburg, MS 39180
