Q. Can the Contracting Officer clarify what is required for a "varmint shield". Assume it relates as noted to the flat plate support platform for the Generator and Load Bank, but is there also a requirement for screening around the base of the Generator Stand to keep small animals or birds from nesting under the generator.

A. A 3/16” plate between the generator base and the stand

Q. It was noted the Vendor can pre-drill holes for the Generator Standing Mounting, but no other holes. We assume this refers to the stand mounting holes to anchor the stand to the GFE concrete foundation. It would be better for the installation crew to have pre-drilled anchor bolt holes in the stand leg mounting plates. We can provide an anchor bolt template and dimensions, which would allow an exact placement of the anchor bolts in the concrete, and eliminate the need to field drill holes. Please advise if pre-drilled anchor bolt holes are acceptable for ease of installation.

A. No holes are required, and we prefer to drill all holes on site to avoid any possible variations in the bolt position placement by the concrete contractor.

A. We have not found a factory designed stand that meets the Solicitation requirements. We propose to have our Structural Engineering Firm, ECS Engineers, located in Casper, Wyoming provide an engineered design and Shop Drawings, submitted for review and approval prior to fabrication.

Please advise if this is an acceptable alternative to a factory designed and fabricated generator stand.

A. The previous installations were provided by the factory, and because of wind load, snow load, and seismic rating, the proposed alternative is not acceptable. Warranty of the genset will be dependent on the stand rating for this site.

(see coordinates in spec).

Q. In email conversation with one of our generator suppliers (Kohler), it seems that the

Cummins seems to be a residential model, and in order to meet the altitude requirements, they will have to go an industrial generator. Also, our supplier has said a load bank does not come with residential generators. Please clarify the requirements.

A. This is a brand name or equal, Cummins C20N6 with a built in load bank, (see 1.A.1. in specification). The requirement for this site has been technically researched and the determination made that the brand or equal will be sufficient for the size and reliability as well as the requirement for a load bank with a microprocessor to avoid wet-stacking the genset.
