About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the procurement of a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Talent Cultivation Office. The FTIR must cover the electromagnetic range from UV-VIS-IR with a standard spectral range of 8,000 to 350 cm⁻¹ and capability for spectral range extension. The basic configuration includes a MIR-KBr beamsplitter (T303/IX), automatic beam splitter exchange unit (upgradeable to 3 beam splitters), room temperature DLaTGS detector (D301/M) on a multi-detector unit (field-upgradeable to 5 automated MultiTect detectors), high power IR source, 13-position aperture wheel, 8-position validation wheel, OPUS/IR software package, and BPAD ATR Polymer Library with 234 spectra of 117 polymers recorded with diamond and germanium-ATR technique.
The instrument will be used to perform mid-infrared spectroscopic studies of solids, liquids, and gases at various temperatures and pressures to simulate planetary environments and interstellar regimes, supporting research on atmospheric constituents in exoplanets and Venus in coordination with multiple IRAD, ISFM, and ROSES awards. The FTIR will be delivered to Building 34, Room C155 (Hot Environments Lab) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center within 12 weeks after drawing approval. All work will be conducted on-site at that location, with the period of performance commencing immediately upon contract award.

STATEMENT OF WORK
Description
Objective:
We require a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) with the following capabilities that can cover the electromagnetic range from the UV-VIS-IR. These wavelengths correspond with those used to identify atmospheric constituents in the atmospheres of Solar System bodies and extrasolar planets allowing for full versatility of the new instrument. The specific capabilities of the instrument are defined based on the experimental procedures we have in place.
The standard spectral range covers 8,000 to 350cm-1 with various options for spectral range extension.
Included in the basic configuration are:
- MIR-KBr beamsplitter (T303/IX)
- Automatic beam splitter exchange unit, upgradeable for up to 3 beam splitters.
- Room temperature DLaTGS detector (D301/M) installed on multi detector unit. System can be upgraded in-field to up to 5 automated MultiTect detectors at customer site.
- High power IR source
- Aperture wheel with 13 positions
- Validation wheel with 8 positions
- OPUS/IR software package
- BPAD ATR Polymer Library, 234 spectra (of 117 polymers) recorded with diamond and Germanium-ATR technique.
Background:
Our experiment is designed to perform N-Mid-IR spectroscopic studies of solids/liquids/gases at a variety of temperatures and pressures encompassing a wide variety of planetary environments and interstellar regimes. To make these measurements, the temperature and pressures must be simulated in a controlled space allowing for the phase change of the materials. This requires an FTIR modified to cover the UV-VIS- IR range covered by NASA Goddard missions. Specifically, this FTIR will be used with instruments by multiple IRAD, ISFM, and ROSES awards to generate comparable spectroscopic data of compounds that are expected atmospheric constituents in Exoplanets and Venus. This data is useful as a direct comparison for mission data characterizing the atmospheres and specifically clouds of these worlds.
Deliverables:
The FTIR will be delivered to B34:C155 at the Hot Environments Lab at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Delivery is 12 weeks after drawing approval.
Place of Performance:
All work will be conducted on-site in Building 34, Room C155, the Hot Environments Lab
Period of Performance:
Award date immediately after awarded
