6. The term “or equal” means that components, equipment or material shall be equivalent in terms of performance, services required, compatibility with interrelated systems and arrangements and supportability over the service life of the components or equipment. In the case of component or equipment substitution for those components or equipment noted on the Contract Guidance Drawings or Specification, the Contractor shall submit a written request delineating the design and the performance data on both the specified and substituted piece of equipment for COR approval and if approved, the Contractor shall take full contractual and technical responsibility for ensuring installation of components or equipment’s or both and compatibility with interrelated systems.
7. The terms “Replace” or “Renew” mean to remove the existing unit, equipment, or systems, including all interferences and to install a new unit, equipment or system which is either identical to or equal to that which was removed; the installation shall include at a minimum all hook-up, supports, and adapters which are required to effect a fully operational installation complete in all respects.

A. Prior to surface preparation, secure all watertight doors and expansion dome ullage hatches, cover and protect all tank and deck house vents and other openings to prevent ingress of contaminants. After protective measures have been accomplished, prepare surfaces for coating as follows:
1. Underwater/antifouling: Abrasive grit blast to SSPC-SP6.
2. Freeboard: Bare metal power tool clean to SSPC-SP11 all areas where coating is damaged or corrosion has broken through. Perform a full dual-action sanding to all existing freeboard coatings. Where SP11 surface preparation has been performed, feather back intact coatings prior to application of new coating. Solvent wipe 100% of freeboard surfaces prior to coatings application. For bidding purposes, assume 10% of the freeboard will require SP11.
3. Main deck, vents, bitts, cleats and chocks: will be maintained by Owner. Need not be addressed by the Contractor.
4. Deck house, expansion domes: will be maintained by Owner. Need not be addressed by the Contractor.
B. Upon completion of surface preparation, the Contractor is to make a visual inspection of the entire hull and main deck. Contractor is to submit a written report of the conditions found during this inspection and make recommendations, if any to the COR.
C. Handling, storage and disposal of hazardous waste, if any, generated as a result of surface preparation shall be the responsibility of the contractor, as being the generator. Disposal of any hazardous waste shall be at the contractor’s expense and in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations.
