PRESSURE TESTING OF PIPE

GENERAL

REQUIREMENTS INCLUDED

Leak testing shall be conducted by the Contractor on the following lines, as applicable:

All liquids distribution piping installed by the Contractor.

The procedure and equipment to be used shall be approved by the Engineer prior to testing.

The Contractor shall perform leakage tests on all non-perforated piping after installation and before backfilling where pipe is buried or encased. The Contractor shall test the entire pipeline again after all pipes are cleaned and buried.

At the Contractor’s discretion, pipe may be tested in fused sections prior to installation to reduce the potential of repairs needed following installation. This method does not replace the requirement to test the pipe after installation.

PRODUCTS

TESTING EQUIPMENT

The Contractor shall provide necessary piping connections between the section of line being tested and the nearest available source of air, or test fluid, together with test pumping equipment, pressure gauge and other equipment, materials, and facilities necessary to make the specified tests. The Contractor shall provide temporary sectionalizing devices and vents as required for testing. Vents are to be left plugged if not required for the permanent installation.

EXECUTION

TESTING PROCEDURE

The following procedures will be performed by the Contractor, as outlined below:

The specified test pressures shall be as measured at the horizontal centerline of the lowest point of the piping under test.

Each pipeline shall be adequately braced and supported before tests are made. Partial backfilling between joints of pipelines in trenches is permissible to prevent movement under test pressure, subject to approval by the Engineer.
