REQUEST FOR INFORMATION # 4 – SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO
Installation Requirements:
Exhaust piping for the washers is called out as CPVC. Is PVC acceptable?
Answer – No. CPVC is required for exhaust piping for the washers.
Will the station provide contractor information for the bonded roof and fire alarm systems?
Answer – Document information will be available at station.
Item #4:
The specification states that a multiple pocket machine is required but does not specify the number of pockets.
Does the station require the same number of pockets in the new equipment as there is in the existing equipment?
Answer – Multiple pocket machine is required and the system propose has to work with the overhead monorail soil system.
Items #4 & 5 For the two production washers, are the pocket sizes required to be similar to allow for a single sorting size?
For example, the 800 pound washer would have 6 pockets at 133 lbs./pocket, the 400 pound washer would have 3 pockets at 133 lbs./pocket and the 200 pound washer would have 2 pockets at 100 lbs./pocket.
Answer – Multiple pocket machine is required and the system propose has to work with the overhead monorail soil system.
Items #4, 5 & 6 The specification lists the pounds required for each machine (700/800, 400/500, 200/300) but does not list the criteria for determining what equipment qualifies for each size. What is the cubic foot per pound requirement for each size?
Answer – Each contractor will submit a bid for their 700/800, 400/500, 200/300 lb. washer extractor. Literature provided with the proposal must show that the equipment offered falls at or between each weight.
The specification calls for one hose bib per machine. Would an alternate specification of one hose bib per 50’ radius be acceptable?
Answer – Yes. One 50’ retractable hose bid is acceptable as long as it reaches all washers..
The specification calls for removal of the concrete pad in front of the washers and replace with a platform. The concrete pad does not extend to the 200 pound washer. Is the platform expected to be installed in the same manner (i.e. only be in front of the larger washers)?
Answer – Yes. Only in front of the large washers.
Item #7 Does the statement “if applicable” mean that the non-production washers are not required to be integrated into the wash control systems if they are made by a different manufacturer or with a different control platform?
Answer – Yes. The non-production washers are not required to be integrated into the wash control systems if they are made by a different manufacturer or with a different control platform.
The specifications indicate that the system “shall assist management concerning water supply and potential chemical imbalance”. Can this be clarified? There will be a separate energy monitoring system for the water system and the chemical vendor software will be responsible for monitoring the chemical system and balance.
Is there an additional requirement for the wash systems control? Would a system that does not monitor this be considered?
Answer – Yes. There will be a separate energy monitoring system for the water system and the chemical vendor software will be responsible for monitoring the chemical system and balance.
The specification calls for the area above 9’6” from floor glass barrier wall to be fire-resistant drywall. Given the fact that there is an existing staph barrier wall of block construction, could that structure be re-used rather than replaced with drywall?
Answer – Yes.
Item #10
Can the non-production washers be drained directly to the waste water tank without having a collection pit?
They will need to be relocated from the existing location to accommodate the new dryer.
Answer – Yes.
Item #13
Would a blanket folding system with separate controls for the feeder and folder be considered acceptable?
Answer – Yes.
Would a blanket system where the program is determined by changes at the folder rather than the feeder be considered acceptable?
Answer – Yes.
