Request for Information (RFI) Notice 01

Modernize Supply Chain, Bldg. 1 Basement Project No. 664-21-301

1. The plans are not clear if all phases of work are slab on grade, and thickness of existing concrete slab. Please clarify.

Refer to Sheets A4.200 – A4.204 for building sections. Refer to attached original structural As-Build plans 1-S5, 1-S6 and Loading Dock Enclosure (year 2000) sheet S2.1: Original building slab is 3’-6” beneath (e) conc. slab over compacted fill in Select Areas. Otherwise, slab is on grade

2. Phase 6, plan pg. P2.600 appears to show a concrete footing, or concrete wall in the work area that is not shown on the new plumbing page P2.601.

Please clarify if this structure will be removed during the demo or will remain.

Refer to keynote #12 on A3.101, (E) pit is filled with slurry and new slab during Phase 6. Also this pit is used for coring under corridor (Question #10)

3. The plans do not reflect the depth, or invert of the existing sewer lines, at connection points, please provide sewer line depth or provide as built drawings.

See markup below for interpreted elevations from as builts. Field verification will be required during construction. See provided structural and plumbing as builts provided.

4. Plan page P2.301 appears to show the 2” FLW line going through or below a footing or grade beam, at B-171. Please clarify and provide detail.

FLW in new office – old gas storage room to be capped. FLW line is abandoned and will be capped or demolished as need for structural/below floor work. Refer to the structural drawings not the plumbing drawings.

5. Plan page P2.400 appears to call for demoing of two vent pipes but there are not below, or above pipe routing provided. Note #1 says to replace piping utilities as needed. Please clarify the extent for bidding, are we to remove and replace, or just demo existing piping.

Please provide detail for complete extent of re-routing that is required, with sizing and distance.

This line was from what appeared to be an abandoned or removed floor drain vent. Including slab and piping demo for approx. 20 linear feet of below floor sewer and demolition approx. 40’ of above floor 2” vent line. Will field verify with contractor during demolition.

6. Plan page P2.200 calls for the demo of existing bathroom fixtures, and below ground waste piping. There are no above ground piping details given, for the demo of the existing water lines. Note #2 calls to ensure there are no dead legs in piping remaining.

Please provide detail or as built drawings and clarify the scope of demolition in this area.

Below floor and sewer work indicated. Provide for demolition of cold, hot and recirculating back to corridor, approximately 20’ and capped/sterilized, etc.

7. Plan pg. P2.600, note #1, calls to replace floor drain strainer with cap. Plan pg. P2.601 appears to show the floor drains as removed. Please clarify if the drains are to be removed, and the waste line capped below grade.

Drain removed and sewer/vent capped below floor. Repair floor after cap.

8. Plan pg. P2.600 shows an existing FLW tank to be abandoned in place, please clarify if this is below grade, and any work required to abandon. Plan pg. P2.601 appears to show the new bathroom above this tank, please provide detail, or as built’ s, to see if there will be an issue with the new sewer piping in this area.

The tank and lines have been abandoned. General contractor to remove tank and any structural impedances to piping and restore as required for new plumbing work.

9. Plan pg. P2.101 shows roof drain overflow attaching to columns, please clarify that this piping is to be on the outside of the column, provide detail of any special attachment requirements, and bottom spout termination.

These vertical insulated cast iron drain lines are exposed along vertical column.

Provide protective jacketing.

10. Plan pg. P2.601, note #7, says to core drill holes for waste lines, below the corridor slab, to avoid closure of corridor. Please provide details for existing concrete slab in this location, slab thickness and existing footings and grade beams in this location. It is unclear if a boring machine can be placed in this location, and how large of a boring pit will be required to accomplish this. Please provide a detailed scope and intent.

See Question 1 response

11. Plan pg. P2.500 calls for a 2” FLW drain line to be demoed through the same corridor, there is NO note for coring below the slab for this work, saw cutting and trenching would cause corridor closure to do the work. Please advise, and provide detailed scope, with work hours, for this work.

Line is/will be abandoned, slurry fill and leave in place. Minimize impact of patient care area with nursing involvement, subject to time scheduling. Refer to the

SOW.

12. For saw cutting of concrete inside the building, will a gas-powered saw be allowed? If not, will there be 480v 3-phase, 50A, power available? Please provide the work hours required for saw cutting.

No Gas-powered saws allowed in the interior of the building. Contractor is advised to use Battery Powered Demo Saw ie: Makita, Hilti, Milwaukee etc… Access to 480v 3-phase, 50A power is available. Minimize impact of patient care area with nursing involvement, subject to time scheduling. Refer to the SOW.

13. Plan pg. P2.101, note #3, calls to terminate condensate at existing hub drain. There are no details given, please provide details, drawings, or photos, of connection point and location.

Contractor needs to field verify – image below

14. This building is undergoing a major project to change all domestic water valves, remove all dead legs, add TMV’s at all sinks and add water monitoring panel systems. These panels cost about $23,000 each and there are two (2) of them with the demolition area of this project, mop sink room between column lines “O” and “N.7”. Has this project been coordinated with that project?

Panels will be moved to a different location.

15. There are Airflow Measurement Stations associated with the AHU units. Within the control details there is a note: “Controls contractor furnished sensors, controllers and actuators factory installed controls.” Does this mean that the controls contractor will provide these Airflow Measurement Stations?

If manufacturer does not provide a means of PLC Optimization and fan airflow measurement as part of unit controls, air handling unit manufacturer will provide piezometric rings in each fan of the array and provide a flow measuring station (totalizing) that is unit mounted in appropriate enclosure (outdoors if required).

Totalizing flow meter shall be interconnected to BMS system with programmed points as required for input into BMS monitoring.

16. There is a PLC Optimization Controller associated with the AHU Units. Within the control details there is a note: “Controls contractor furnished sensors, controllers and actuators factory installed controls.” Does this mean that the controls contractor will provide these PLC Optimization Controllers?

See Question #15 response

17. There are Airflow Measurement monitoring points coming off of the PLC Optimization Controller associated with the AHU units for supply and return air. Is the controls contractor expected to furnish these airflow measurement stations? Or are they built into the PLC Optimization Controller?

See Question #15 response

18. How are the additional points associated with the AHU Units (Ai Supply CFM, Ai Return CFM) to be monitored?

See response to 15 related to airflow. All Analog input data shall be engaged through BMS. Control diagrams, network diagram and specifications referenced for all requirements of a new BMS controller as depicted on plans.

For the air handling units, if the vendor of AHU bid does not have a PLC or on-board control as defined for airflow monitoring and control above, then stand-alone flow monitor shall be provided with each fan array for analog input to new DDC/BMS system.

For air handling units, the supply and return fan arrays shall have digital output for alarm status, analog output for frequency or speed, and remote enable/disable.

The BACNET interface shall be programmed for all other available points into system for remote monitoring and interface. See diagram above for non PLC based.

Johnson Controls/MetaSys Building Management System (BMS) is the current existing system.
