Replace Surgery Curtainwall Project 541-19-501 Bidding RFI’s

1. Please confirm if there are stone window sills on the second floor in Anesthesia rooms 2545 & 2546 as well as Corridor 2C360 that will need to be removed and reinstalled. See sheet A2.0.

VA Response: Existing sill in Corridor 2C360 is stainless steel. Existing sill in Anesthesia Offices is plastic laminate. Coded Note 8 indicates location of stone sills that are to be reinstalled. If room is not tagged by Coded Note 8, existing sill is to be removed and discarded and new quartz sill is to be provided.

2. Will the removal of the second floor sills be the stone subcontractors responsibility of will this be handled by the G.C. during deconstruction? If the sub’s responsibility, will there be on site storage provided until the reinstallation can occur?

VA RESPONSE: The VA will have a contract with the general contractor only. It is the decision of the general contractor to determine who is responsible for sill demolition and removal. No separate on site storage will be made available, other than the area designated by Coded Note 3 on A0.0.

3. Sill detail on A5.1, section view #2, shows a 1.5” build down. Will a “Butt” or “Stacked” lamination be accepted, as some sill sections are curved and a true 45° Miter Lamination will not be possible?

VA RESPONSE: Yes.

4. Material Selection – When will the Cambria color be selected and will alternates be accepted?

VA RESPONSE: The VA will select a color from the full range of Cambia products. If at the time of color selection, another manufacturer is selected, a price adjustment may be issued.

5. On second floor it calls for the temp partition to go full height floor to ceiling, do the radiant panels run tight to the soffit wall as they do on first floor?

VA RESPONSE: Refer to attached photos 2110 & 2115 for typical location of radiant panels in the ICU patient rooms. Radiant panels are tight to the soffit in the Anesthesia Offices. There are no radiant panels in Corridor 2C360.

6. The drawings call for new sills on first floor and rooms 2545 & 2546 with the remaining on second floor to remain, is this correct?

VA RESPONSE: Yes, however existing sills where indicated to be reused should be removed and reinstalled to provide tight joints with new curtainwall.

7. The drawings call for the lighting protection to be removed but is not called out to be replaced, is this correct?

VA RESPONSE: Yes, lightning protection does not need to be replaced.

8. It was discussed at prebid that if drywall was used for the temp partition wall that work would have to be completed after hours but if the plastic panels were used that work could be completed during normal hours, can this be clarified?

VA RESPONSE: Both types of partitions will need to be constructed around patient care and availability of first floor offices being used by staff. It won’t necessarily require that the work be performed after normal business hours.

9. Will the area designated as the laydown/dumpster area be freed up before construction begins?

VA Response: It is the VA’s intent to have that space available prior to start of construction.

Contractor should bid project as though it will be available.

10. Is the landscaping to remain?

VA RESPONSE: Landscaped areas shall be restored to their current condition before the conclusion of the project. Contractor may at contractor’s sole option protect current landscaped areas or remove and reinstall landscaping.

11. Does the glass have a specific make up? I see vision and spandrel glass but no specific color to either.

VA RESPONSE: Color of new glazing shall match color of existing glazing.

12. Is there any specific sequence required for the work?

VA RESPONSE: Sequence direction is shown on detail #1 and #2 on drawing A0.1. Direction shall be east to west. No more than two patient rooms in the ICU can be taken out of service at any given time. Installation alignment of vertical mullions may overlap beyond the two patient rooms in which case infection prevention barriers must be in place. The following shall be added to Specification 01 00 00.1.6.I.:

4. Contractor shall sequence the Work such that no more than two patient rooms in the ICU shall be taken out of service at any given time.

13. What is to be done with the old aluminum and glass?

VA RESPONSE: The existing curtain wall when removed shall become the general contractor’s property and shall be removed in accordance with Specification 01 74 19.1.1.D. Materials that can be recycled should be recycled.
