Replace Surgery Curtainwall Project 541-19-501 Bidding RFI’s

1. Should the contractor be required to remove all existing safing and start with a new UL System Design in order to achieve the specified fire-rating? What is the fire-rating of the existing floor?

VA Response: The fire rating of the existing floor-ceiling assembly is 2 hour, as indicated on Drawing X.1. Contractor shall provide a rated assembly that attains the 2 hour rating. During the submittal process, contractor is to submit a UL Design specific to their curtain wall assembly, for review by the Architect. Contractor shall include in their bid all work necessary to achieve the required 2 hour rating.

2. Is the roof assembly fire rated? If so, should there be a fire-rated UL System installed at the top of the curtainwall at the roof assembly?

VA RESPONSE: The fire rating of the roof assembly is 1 hour, as indicated on Drawing X.1.

Contractor shall provide a rated assembly that attains the 1 hour rating. (see also the response to question 1 above regarding the UL Design.)
