William J. Matelan Contracting Officer
1. What is the location of dumpster and lay down area on site?
Dumpster location will be final coordinated w/ VA COR onsite, but is anticipated at the northern end of the ROB Alley, adjacent to the Nutrition Docks and Freight Elevator Lobby entry to B30 (ROB). Reference ‘Building Key Plan’ on Sheet GI001. Area of dumpsters anticipated in close proximity to NW Corner of Building 10, NE Corner of Bldg 30 and NW Corner of B1 Clinical Addition. Any ‘laydown’ area outside of the project footprint itself would be limited in scale (likely behind – IE I the N-S Zone to east of the trailers and to South of Transformer shown in A-100 Plan) and would have to be coordinated w/ VA COR post award. THE LOCATION OF THE DUMPSTER AND THE AVAILABILITY OF ANY “LAYDOWN” AREA OUTSIDE OF THE PROJECT FOOTPRINT ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AND CANNOT BE GUARANTEED AT THIS TIME.
1. What size fence is needed around the coolers and does the fenced in area need to be secured.
Fence shall be typical 8’ high metal. As clarified during walkthrough, the fence shall be fully secured to adjacent building 1 & bed tower to provide a secure perimeter to protect/limit access to temporary units in Lot 7.
1. How much time does the VA need between phases?
Plan to provide VA Qty (4) weeks between Phase I&II
1. Where is general contractor and subcontractor parking?
As mentioned at the pre-bid walkthrough and as noted in Spec Section 01 01 10 “Medical Center Requirements” “S. Parking: There will be no on‐site Contractor parking. There will be no contractor staging outside of construction area. Contractor's Trailers: Not authorized. Contractor is only authorized one dumpster location, regardless of how may projects they have onsite, which will be assigned by COR after Notice to Proceed.”
GC/Subs can arrange for parking at adjacent lease lots for University of Pittsburgh or other offsite/adjacent locations.
1. The specifications indicate that there is approximately 15 sf of black mastic on the exterior walls. Is this in (1) single area or will multiple containment be needed?
Reference section entitled ‘Abatement’ on Sheet S-001, General Structural & Construction Notes. All exterior walls are assumed to have Mastic; and attachment to or disruption thereof in support of new work shall be executed accordingly. Disregard “15sf”.
1. It was discussed during the walkthrough that a temporary tunnel will be required. There is no mention of a tunnel on the drawings. Please advise location of tunnel.
Reference Sheet A-101, Drawing #1 for ‘Phase I’. This plan and key notes indicate that Corridor CAW24B needs to be maintained as open access to VA Employees/vendors daily, with any work in Phase 1C area executed off-tour (nights & weekends). Part of that corridor includes opening existing double door pair to provide access route to/from portable units in parking lot and active kitchen. The keynotes indicate rated doors/barriers on either side of that route that must either extend to deck or have ‘dropped’ ceilings of similar construction if GC aims to allow access to/from construction areas to either side of that corridor, thereby creating a rated ‘Tunnel’.
1. It was discussed during the walkthrough that there are some walls that presently do not go to the deck and do not show on the drawings. Since the contractor will be responsible to extend them could a quantity be provided or can an all bidders provide the same allowance in their proposal?
GCs owe rated partitions/barriers in keeping w/ those defined in the Contract Documents (Sheet A-101 and similar). While the bulk of those partitions are pre-existing and thereby represent a savings in labor/expense to the bidders, they are responsible for sealing any penetrations or completing those barriers as needed to comply w/ Safety/Infectious Control requirements. VA and AE have taken the extra step of identifying areas that clearly do NOT extend to deck as an effort to assist bidders in their planning efforts, but VA will not be quantifying misc. above-ceiling penetrations.
1. Please advise a rental period for the temporary refrigerator and freezer trailers.
The period of rental is directly related to GC/Subcontractor internal plans related to staffing/schedule of completion for Phase I within the overall defined project duration.
8) Several specification sections contain tables/charts that seem to be cut off and do not show the complete information (01 33 23 – Submittal Register, 01 91 00 – Commissioning Roles & Responsibilities, 09 06 00 – Schedule for Finishes, 23 05 41 – Selection Guide for Vibration Isolators). Please provide these sections with the complete information.
All sections are posted with this amendment
