About this file

This document outlines requirements for two cassette printers. The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 1 seeks cassette printing systems to label anatomical pathology samples and tissue blocks for two VA facilities. The cassette printers must use laser printing with 2D barcodes to produce permanent, indelible labels on cassettes with high-resolution text and barcodes. They must be able to print and organize up to 100 cassettes at a time at a rate of 12 cassettes per minute in a small footprint. The cassette printers must integrate with the VISTA laboratory information system, have a five-year proven track record, and include installation at the VA Boston Healthcare System in West Roxbury, MA and VA Providence Healthcare System in Providence, RI. Bids are solicited under solicitation number 36C24123Q0860 for this requirement.

Description

Pathology and Laboratory service is in need of (2) new cassette printing systems. The function of this system is to ensure that patient anatomic pathology samples and tissue blocks are not hand labelled. This is done for patient safety. Incorrectly identifying a handwritten cassette and creating patient slides against the wrong tissue block are both known errors that can be made when using a manual process. The cassette printer minimizes human error in this process.

The cassette printer must use laser printing with 2D barcodes.

The printer must produce permanent, indelible histology cassette printing with high-resolution text and barcodes.

The cassette printer must print directly onto the cassette, eliminating the need for handwriting on labels.

Cassettes must have a ≥99.5% scan rate.

The cassette printer must have a small footprint. Space in the histology labs is very limited.

The cassette printer must have the capacity to print and organize up to 100 cassettes at a time.

The cassette printer must have a built-in cassette organization system, which holds a minimum of 100 cassettes.

The cassette organization system must be able to accommodate at a minimum 4 different cassette types and colors at once.

There must be no rotation of cassettes involved in the printing process, to eliminate jamming of cassettes.

The cassette printer must have minimal to no cassette jams during printing.

The cassette printer must print at a rate of ≥12 cassettes per minute.

The cassette printer must be capable of both on demand and batch cassette printing.

Cassettes must have attached lids.

The cassette printer must not require ribbon, printheads or tapes.

Attachment# 1 36C24123Q0860 0001

The cassette printer must have the ability to interface with the laboratory information system (VISTA).

The cassette printer must have been on the market for a minimum of 5 years with positive past performance records.
