About this file
This technical requirements document details specifications for high voltage power supplies for the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory's PIP-II superconducting H- linear accelerator beam loss monitoring system. The power supplies must have at least 8 channels with standard SHV 5 kV connectors, negative polarity, mountable in a standard 19" rack with maximum 3U height, and powered by 110V AC. Key technical requirements include voltage settings from 0 to >=2000V, channel current support of >=3 mA, voltage ripple <8 mV (10 Hz to 1 kHz) and <5 mV (1 kHz to 20 MHz), voltage and current monitoring, and precise setting/monitoring accuracy of better than ±0.02% ±1V.
Additional requirements specify operational conditions including a non-condensing humidity range of 0-80%, temperature range of 5°C to 45°C, long-term stability of ±0.02% of full scale, and support for both local and remote control via TCP/IP over ethernet. The remote control capabilities must include setting and monitoring of voltages, currents, and current trip status. The document is part of the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory's Proton Improvement Plan Phase 2 (PIP-II) project, with the specification prepared by the AD/Instrumentation department on 18 April 2025 and revised on 28 April 2025.

1. INTRODUCTION
The Fermi National Accelerator Lab (FNAL) PIP-II superconducting H- linear accelerator will use several different varieties of radiation detectors to monitor beam losses along the accelerator. These detectors will operate in a high-radiation environment between cryomodules and require an external high voltage power supply. This document enumerates the technical requirements of these high voltage (HV) power supplies.
In this specification the following key words (in bold text) will be used:
shall: Indicates a mandatory requirement. Designers shall implement such mandatory requirements to claim conformance with this specification.
Note: When not in bold text, the words in the table above are being used in the traditional sense; that is, they do not adhere to the strict meanings described above.
2. REQUIREMENTS
Table 1 lists technical requirements for the HV power supply.
Table 1: Technical Requirements
Requirement # Requirement Statement
2_1 The supply shall be mountable in a standard 19” rack and shall have a maximum height of 3U. The supply shall be powered by 110V AC.
2_2 The supply shall have >= 8 channels with standard SHV 5 kV connectors.
2_3 The supply shall be negative polarity.
2_4 Each channel shall be settable from 0 to >= 2000 V.
2_5 Each channel shall support >= 3 mA of current.
2_7 Voltage ripple shall be < 8 mV from 10 Hz to 1 kHz, and < 5 mV from 1 kHz to 20 MHz.
2_8 Each channel shall have voltage and current monitoring.
2_9 Each channel shall support a current limit that either turns off the channel voltage or lowers the voltage to keep the current below the limit.
2_10 The voltage setting resolution shall be <= 10 mV.
2_11 The voltage setting accuracy shall be better than ± 0.02% ± 1 V.
2_12 The voltage monitoring resolution shall be <= 10 mV.
