About this file
Field Data Services of Arizona (FDS) has submitted a qualifications document highlighting their traffic data collection capabilities, primarily serving government agencies in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and New Mexico. The document details their current active contracts with multiple municipal governments including the Cities of Peoria, Scottsdale, Surprise, Avondale, Chandler, Glendale, and MAG (Maricopa Association of Governments), with over 35 active government contracts throughout Arizona and California.
FDS specializes in comprehensive traffic data collection services, offering turning movement counts, speed classification, volume counts, and pedestrian studies using both intrusive (pneumatic tube counters) and non-intrusive (Wavetronix and Omnibird video recorders) technologies. The company has been in business since 2002, conducting approximately 1,200 classification studies annually, and maintains a rigorous quality assurance program that includes bi-annual equipment calibration, strict equipment standards, cross-verification of data, extensive technician training, and periodic internal audits. Their references demonstrate substantial ongoing work, such as 250 counts for Glendale, 230 bi-directional counts for Peoria, and 55 turning movement and 69 ADT counts for Surprise, all conducted within specified timeframes.

Experience and Qualifications of Firm
Field Data Services of Arizona (FDS) currently has many ongoing projects in Arizona including the contracts of City of Peoria, City of Scottsdale, City of Surprise, City of Avondale, City of Chandler, City of Glendale, MAG and many private engineering projects as well. FDS has over 35 active contracts with Government agencies throughout Arizona and California. FDS has been in business since 2002, providing our clients with quality traffic counts for 22 years. We can collect any type of traffic counts that are needed mainly focusing on turning movement counts, speed, classification and volume counts. Many of our contracts require us to perform classification counts for a duration of time. We utilize pneumatic tube counters (intrusive counts) along with Wavetronix and the Omnibird video recorders (non-intrusive counters) to collect our 13 bin FHWA counts. FDS is a leading full-service traffic data collection firm with upload capabilities of the MS2 portal.
Quality Assurance Program
To maintain high standards in traffic data collection, FDS has implemented a comprehensive quality assurance program. This program ensures accuracy, reliability, and consistency in all aspects of our services. Here are the key components:
1. Calibration and Maintenance:
• Regular Calibration: FDS counters are calibrated bi-annually using a Basicon Model 1111 Calibrator or more frequently if necessary. This ensures that all equipment is functioning accurately.
• Equipment Testing: Frequently used road tubes are tested with a Basicon Model 1110 Air Hose Tester to check for obstructions, holes, or tears that could affect data accuracy.
2. Equipment Standards:
• Equal Length Tubes: Road tubes must be of equal length to ensure consistent data collection.
• Proper Placement: Tubes are placed a minimum of 300 feet away from traffic control devices, and classification count tubes are set equal feet apart.
• Tube Condition: Tubes are visually inspected for damage each time they are deployed.
3. Data Verification:
• Cross-Verification: Data collected from multiple sources (e.g., manual counts and pneumatic tube counters) are cross-verified to ensure consistency and accuracy.
4. Training and Protocols:
• Technician Training: All traffic technicians are trained extensively in the latest data collection techniques and equipment handling.

• Standard Operating Procedures: FDS follows strict guidelines for all types of studies, including ADT Classification (intrusive) and (non-intrusive) counts.
5. Continuous Improvement:
• Regular Audits: Internal audits are conducted periodically to assess the effectiveness of the quality assurance program and identify areas for improvement.
• Feedback Loop: Client feedback is actively sought and used to refine processes and improve service delivery.
By adhering to these quality assurance practices, FDS ensures that all traffic data collected is accurate, reliable, and useful for making informed decisions.
