About this file

This document is a set of Questions and Answers (Q&A) related to a previous solicitation for the replacement of HVAC units in three park buildings at Lava Beds National Monument in Siskiyou County, California. The solicitation number is 140P8424Q0063.

The key details from the Q&A document are:

  • No permits are required for this project.
  • The heating element sizes are specified as 9kW for the Administration building, 10kW for Building 60/61, and 15kW for the Visitor's Center.
  • The NPS does not want to add economizers to the packaged heat pumps.
  • The existing electrical circuits for the heat strips in Building 60/61 and the Administration building do not have the capacity for the 9kW units, so contractors will need to price out running new electrical circuits.
  • Contractors should include all costs, including electrical, to install complete systems according to code.

Ques ons & Answers

This project was previously solicited last year. At that me, ques ons about the project were received which were answered by NPS. Some relevant Q&As are included below for your reference as they relate to this project.

Q1: Where will I obtain the permit? Will it be the county of Modoc?

A1: No permits are required.

Q2: What size KW hea ng element should I provide?

A2: Per Specifica on 23 81 43 the hea ng element for the Administra on is 9kW, Building 60/61 is 10kW, and Visitor’s Center is 15kW.

Q3: Adding an economizer on the (3) packaged heat pump is an op on. May I address that as an alternate?

A3: No, the NPS does not want to add economizers.

Q4: The specs call out for Building 60/61 to have 9KW heat strips each. The exis ng electrical circuit for the heat strips does not have the capacity for 9KW. Should I price out running a new electrical circuit?

This same situa on applies to the Admin building as well.

A4: Yes. Where supplemental hea ng is added, and the exis ng circuits are not large enough, the circuits will need to be replaced according to NEC and specifica on 262700. Contractors shall include in their pricing all costs, including electrical, to install complete systems according to code.
