About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding Solicitation Number 140P8423Q0103 from the National Park Service to supply and deliver aggregate to Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. The solicitation seeks minus and 1-inch aggregate road base material meeting California Department of Transportation standards for capping unpaved roads at the recreation area. While gradation is less important than meeting Caltrans standards for the intended use, the material must be limestone and weed free. Local quarries in the area have previously provided suitable material.

Questions and Answers

1 - Are there any gradation specifications for this aggregate other than what was provided?

Per the specs they are to provide ¾ minus and 1 ½ aggregate road base to the minimum qualifications set forth per CA DOT. However, this material is for capping unpaved roads.

It is not going to be used for batching concrete or paving asphalt. So, the gradation is less important to me if they follow all due diligence to meet CA DOT standards; it does need to be limestone and weed free. The quarries that provide this material in the local area all provide material that meets this standard.
