Backflow device testing Questions and Answers up to 12/21/20

Q Would the contractor be allowed extra performance time to acquire and install said missing tags?

A No, But the tags can be of any stamped or scribed metal able to withstand the conditions that the tag will be exposed to for at least 1 yr.

Q Can you please specify what information must be imprinted on the missing tags?

A Only the Device ID Number must be on the tag (note, not the serial #)

Q How should untestable backflow preventers be managed?

A This project will only concern the approximately 200 testable backflow preventers there is no requirement to inspect or replace non-testable devices. If a nontestable device that has clearly failed is encountered during the course of the contract it should be reported as such to the NPS but there is no expectation that the contractor will fix replace or maintain these units in any way.

Q can as build plans be provided to the selected contractor before work begins A yes

Q can an updated backflow preventer list be provided A The list provided is the most current available, it is critical that as part of this contract the geolocation and verification requirements of the scope of work are completed.

Q how will locked devices be accessed A there are a few devices that are in locked housings or in secured areas, the COR assigned to the project will be able to provide access to these on an individual device basis.

Q How much notification is needed A The selected contractor should provide a work schedule for approval before work begins after that notification to the COR would be needed 24 hours in advance of any move to a new developed area ie moving from Boulder Beach to Callville Bay. And 72 hour documented notice before any outages.

Q Would a contractor that is certified to work with backflow assemblies through ASSE be an acceptable standard?

A If the ASSE certification is accepted by Nevada and Arizona, yes.

Q Are any of these backflows part of a Fire Protection System, demarcated as Detector Assemblies? Or, are all of these backflows on domestic lines?

A No, they are all domestic lines.
