This document is a Questions and Answers file for the CAHA – Siding and Windows federal contract opportunity (Solicitation No. 140P5325R0009). The Q&A addresses critical technical details for a window and siding replacement project, including specific requirements for flashing (self-adhesive tape and bent metal), cedar siding (18-inch #1 Blue Label CERTIGRADE western red cedar), and exterior wall preparation (two-layer exterior plywood with permeability-rated sheathing and waterproof underlayment). The document provides clarifications on interior finishes, window replacement specifics (reducing from 27 to 26 windows per house), and offers guidance on waste disposal vendors, with contact information for several local dumpster rental companies. Questions and Answers

CAHA – Siding and Windows

140P5325R0009

Q1. What type of flashing material do you want under the window

A1. The scope of work calls for the following: The flashing shall be a self-adhesive flashing tape to all corners and around all windows and doors. Also, bent metal flashing shall be installed above all doors and windows that are secured with stainless steel roofing nails in the upper corners of the bent flashing.

Q2. Do we use sheetrock on the interior around the windows

A2. The existing interior walls are sheetrock, and they are painted white. After replacing the windows, the scope of work calls for touch up paint with a white color and sheen that matches the existing paint. The framing (sill plate) stool/apron of the windows' interior is wood, and any wood replacements that are needed shall be similar type wood and they are to be stained to match the existing wood.

Q3. Can the contractors use the storage units that correlate with the house for storage of their work tools while that house is being renovated

A3. No, the onsite housing storage units will not be available for contractors to use. Please plan accordingly to bring or use your own storage container in the laydown area - if needed.

Q4. Are we to use cedar shake or cedar siding

A4. The scope of work calls for using #1 Blue Label CERTIGRADE western red cedar 18-inch cedar siding. We will NOT accept shake siding for this project.

Q5. Are there 27 or 26 windows

A5. There are 27 existing windows on each house. After replacement of the double wide (two-windows) upstairs to a single smaller centered window; there will be only 26 windows per house.

Q6. What companies are there available to use for waste disposal

A6. There are a few options for dumpster rentals. We have seen contractors rent 20 yard roll off dumpsters from Pick up Man (252) 255-1020- Sound side Recycling and Materials (252) 491-8666 - Red Box Dumpsters (252) 473-7116 - Countrywide Disposal (888) 820-1342 - and Beach Bins (252) 480-0864

Q7. Exterior two layers? - Please Clarify

A7. Yes, there are two layers on the exterior plywood. On top of the plywood, the scope of work calls for installation of exterior wall sheathing with a permeability rating of 50 or greater. This sheathing will allow for water vapor to pass through it. Placed on top of the exterior wall sheathing, there will be waterproof underlayment of no. 30 felt ASTM D226 Type II or ASTM D4869 Type IV.

Q8. Should we replace the wood on the porch ceiling

A8. No, this wood will not be replaced in this project.

Q9. RFI - What Exposure size do you want? Will this product work?
