Scope of Work

Interior and Exterior Painting at William Johnson House Site (William Johnson House, McCallum House, and Johnson Kitchen Dependency Interiors and Exterior Fence)

PMIS 218480, 218479

Natchez National Historical Park Natchez, MS

1.0 BACKGROUND

Located in downtown Natchez, the historic 1840s William Johnson house interprets the life of a free man of color and famed diarist of the antebellum South. The adjacent McCallum House is a combination of historic woodwork and new construction from 2004. The fence behind is also a new construction. The site is an integral component of the Natchez National Historical Park.

1.0 CONSTRUCTION SITE LOCATION

The William Johnson House site, a unit of the larger Natchez National Historical Park, is located at 210 State Street in Natchez, MS 39120.

3.0 PROJECT SCOPE

This cyclic project at Natchez National Historical Park calls for minor carpentry work, wall and ceiling plaster repair, as well as preparation and painting of most interior surfaces of the William Johnson and McCallum houses and the second floor only of the Johnson Kitchen dependency. Also, only the central hall is included on the second floor of the William Johnson House – not the 3 wallpapered bedrooms or parlor. This project also includes the stairs to the attic in the William Johnson House and the attic wall that is visible from the hall below, as well as the stairs to the McCallum attic and interior finishes of that space. The interiors of these structures have not been painted since 2004. This project also includes exterior painting of the wooden fence and gate surrounding the property.

Scope of Work is not meant to be an all inclusive to do list for the project, but a list of the main items involved in the project. The work includes verification and performance of the scope of repairs necessary to provide acceptable plaster wall and wood substrates for painting. Fence painting generally includes proper preparation and repainting all exterior wooden surfaces of all fences and gates (in some areas both sides) located onsite.
