About this file

This document is a set of questions and answers related to a federal contract opportunity for the conservation treatment of firearms, swords, and artillery shells at Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park.

The key details are:

  • There is no incumbent currently performing this treatment work.
  • All artifacts have been verified as inert, though some are considered archaeological objects rather than history objects.
  • The park does not have the necessary lab facilities or equipment to perform in-situ treatment, so the work must be done off-site.
  • The requirement for experience in painting conservation appears to be an editing oversight, as this work specifically requires expertise in historic military object conservation.
  • Photographs, dimensions, and previous treatment reports for the artifacts are available in the attached collection condition survey referenced in the document.
