Solicitation 140P4222Q0047 High Density Storage - Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site (HOFU) Additional Questions and Answers II

Q1. Which system (1 or 2) requires a mobile carriage with 5 vertical dividers, and which system requires one mobile carriage without shelving?

A1. System #2 requires a carriage with one shelving unit with vertical dividers & one without shelving, (42" x 36" units).

Q2. Are double flange wheels permissible vs potentially proprietary roller guide rails?

A2. Yes, double flange wheels are acceptable for use in design of carriage systems.

Q3. Is top mounted shelving on carriages acceptable vs carriages with recesses in the top?

A3. Yes, top mounted shelving are acceptable for use in design of carriage systems.

Q4. Is a single axle drive acceptable vs synchro drive carriages?

A4. Yes, line shaft type drive is acceptable for use in design of carriage systems.

Q5. With an estimated carriage width of 30-32” (based on shelving dimensions), carriages area measuring approximately 431”, and an aisle space of 48”, approximately 383” is available for carriages.

Approximately 12 31” wide carriages will fit vs the 50 carriages specified for System #1 in the SOW. Can you clarify?

A5. The measurements for the carriage area (35’ 11-5/16”w) would only allow for 10 mobile carriages.

With fixed carriage shelving on the wall for System #1, with a width of 30" (as stated in SOW) and the required aisle space measuring 60" (see Amendment 0001, Questions and Answers.pdf, entry #12), there would not be enough room for 12 carriages.

Q6. Can you clarify the stated count of 50 carriages in the SOW?

A6. 50 shelving units and 10 mobile carriages are required for System #1 (see Amendment 0001, Questions and Answers.pdf, entry #11). SOW has been revised to more clearly differentiate carriages from shelving units.

Q7. The SOW references carriage heights of 108” and 95”. Which one is correct?

A7. 108" is the height of the fixed carriage shelving system (wide span shelving) for System #1. 95" is the height of the mobile carriages.

Q8. The SOW indicates different types of shelving (wide span versus other). Can you clarify how many of each type are required? Can you provide actual usable (without the upright) and nominal (including the upright) shelf space in inches? SOW indicates 7 shelves high but with differing openings. How many of each for each type of shelving? Are heights clear openings or center to center?

A8. See Amendment 0001, Questions and Answers.pdf, entries #15 and #18. Shelving details are as follows:

• Fixed carriage shelving # 1 (wide span): 14 total (96" x 30"), 7 total (48" x 30").

• Mobile carriage system shelving #1: 280 total (42 "x 32"), 70 total (30"x 32").

• Fixed carriage shelving #2: 16 total (42" x 18").

• Mobile carriage system shelving #2: 33 total (42" x 36"), rear shelf supports for one unit (42" x 36"), one unit with 10 vertical dividers (42" x 36").

Heights are clear openings.

Q9. Is a drawing with detailed dimensions with dimensioned elevations available for the desired layout?

A9. See Amendment 0001, Questions and Answers.pdf, entry #5, and Bally Bldg. Floor Plan.pdf. No further drawings beyond the general drawing provided are available for this requirement. Site visits and multiple opportunities for questions have been made available to allow for any clarification of the desired layout.
