About this file

This document contains a vendor question response related to a federal solicitation for rifle acquisition. The government will accept the proposed LWRC grip but not the LWRC buttstock for the solicitation. While the LWRC buttstock is standard on LWRC rifles, the government response cites three reasons for not accepting it: it is wider than the originally specified Magpul stock and would make shoulder firing more difficult while wearing body armor; it does not shield the release latch to prevent snagging and inadvertent release; and it does not have a secondary locking mechanism like the Magpul stock to reduce wobble and inadvertent release. The related federal contract opportunity is for the USPP FY21 Rifle Acquisition solicitation from the Department of the Interior National Park Service National Office.

Text version

Vendor Question: Can the [Government] let us know if the buttstock and grip from LWRC that comes standard with their rifles are acceptable for the requested rifles on the solicitation?

Below is the LWRC stock which is standard on all 556 rifles: (Exception PDW) https://www.lwrci.com/LWRCI-Compact-Adjustable-Stock_p_49.html

Below is the LWRC grip which is standard on all 556 rifles: (Exception PDW) https://www.lwrci.com/LWRCI-Pistol-Grip-Kit_p_57.html

Government’s Response: The Government will accept the proposed LWRC grip as it has been deemed equal to the originally specified grip. The Government will not accept the proposed buttstock for three reasons. 1) The proposed LWRC buttstock is wider than the originally specified Magpul stock. This would make it more difficult for our shooters to shoulder the weapon while wearing body armor. 2) The proposed LWRC buttstock does not shield the release latch. The originally specified Magpul buttstock does. This prevents snagging and inadvertent release. 3) The proposed LWRC buttstock does not have a secondary locking mechanism. The originally specified Magpul buttstock does. This lock reduces wobble and further aids in preventing inadvertent release.
