Statement of Work Main Building Roof Replacement and Modular Office Building Roof Overlay
GENERAL: The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has a requirement for roofing services at the National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC) located at 6006 Schroeder Road Madison, WI 53711.
BACKGROUND: The NWHC was established in 1975 to serve the nation and its natural resources by providing sound science and technical support regarding wildlife disease, and to disseminate information to promote science-based decisions affecting wildlife and ecosystem health. NWHC personnel study emerging and resurging diseases, wildlife and ecosystem health, zoonotic diseases, and environmental health and degradation. The NWHC is located on 24 acres and maintains offices and high security disease laboratories in the Main Building (MB) and the Tight Isolation Building (TIB). This request is for replacement of the roof for the Main Building (MB) and overlaying a new roof on the Modular Office Building (MOB).
WORK TO BE PERFORMED BY CONTRACTOR: The contractor shall provide all labor, materials, supervision, supplies, tools, equipment, and transportation, to complete the project.
DESCRIPTION: Contractor shall perform the following:
Roofing The Main Building roof is a single-ply insulated EPDM system with a stone ballast covering. The roof is a replacement system installed in 2002. Roof access is by an internal hatch. Roof drainage is accomplished by tapered insulation sloped towards internal roof drains. There are no overflow scuppers on the high roof, only gravel stops in some areas. The lower roofs over the loading dock area and the incinerator are provided with gravel stop perimeters and scuppers with downspouts as a means of drainage. A small section of roofing membrane has become detached from the substrate along the north side at the gravel stop. This area should be repaired. Concrete paver walkways are installed. A decorative weathering steel screen is installed around the majority of the centrally located mechanical equipment. Contractor shall inspect and repair any leaks that might be coming through the brink at the stack enclosure near the roof hatch. Dark stains have been showing up inside the building on the wall adjacent to the roof ladder at the roof hatch.. The roof contains prefinished coping and edge metal. The paint finish on the incinerator stack at the southeast corner of the roof is faded and the stack is rusting. The Modular Office Building roof has a metal roof which leaks during heavy rain and spring snow melt events.
A. Scope The purpose of this requirement is to remove and replace all the roofs associated with the Main Building (roof estimated area is approximately 33,028 sf) and overlay new roof system on Modular Office Building (roof estimated area is approximately 2,000 sf). The brick section needs partial/full demolition and rebuild to prevent leaking and roof hatch may need replaced. The incinerator stack should have rust removed and repainted with high temperature paint (1000°F) from roof up 6 feet. Contractor shall provide a roofing system diagram that clearly details all products used in the roofing system including product thickness and how the materials are fastened or adhered.
