About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for the Gauley House HVAC replacement project. The Q&A covers several key details about the HVAC system replacement, including specifics about the existing and proposed equipment. The project involves installing a new 10kw air handler and a 2-ton heat pump with a new thermostat, wiring, connection to existing ductwork, electrical disconnects, and a new concrete paver pad for the heat pump. The current system uses R-22 refrigerant, which will be replaced with an R410A system. The existing furnace will be removed and disposed of, and new copper line sets (approximately 15 feet long) will be required. The document includes multiple images showing the existing HVAC infrastructure, including crawl space conditions, current outdoor unit, indoor air handler, electrical panel, and ductwork, which will help contractors assess the installation requirements.

Gauley House HVAC Q&A as of 3/20/2025

1. Photos showing the ductwork in the crawl space.

See below.

2. Height of the blocks from the ground to the bottom of the house to determine how to route the ductwork.

See measurement below.

3. Photos of the ductwork closest to the package unit location to assess how to tap into the existing system.

See below.

4. Do you have any photos showing the existing duct work in the crawl space?

See below.

5. What is the height of the blocks from the ground to the bottom of the house

See measurement below.

6. The provided photos show a split system. Could you confirm if a package unit is now required? If so, this would mean all equipment will be outdoors, with no indoor components.

The project will include the installation of 1 new 10kw air handler, and a 2-ton heat pump with a new thermostat, wiring, connection to existing ductwork, electrical disconnects, and construction of one new concrete paver pad for the heat pump. The project will also include the removal and disposal of the existing furnace system. Not a package unit.

7. Do you know which Refrigerant is in the existing machine (the solicitation requires R410A in the new Heat Pump System) will new Copper Line Sets be required? What is the distance between the Heat Pump vs Air Handler - to price out the Copper Line Sets length?

The manual says the current unit takes R-22. Unit manual pages are attached. It is recommended to change the line sets with a new unit. I do not know that measurement (pending measurement).

UPDATE: The measurement is approx. 15 feet. Contractors will need to verify.
