About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details a one-time purchase by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center's Sterile Processing Section for EndoDry cabinets and related equipment to support drying and storing over 50 flexible endoscopes. The specific procurement includes 6 EndoDry Cabinets, multiple hook-ups and transport cassettes, trays, carts, disinfectant blocks, and cassette straps, totaling several different models and quantities. The equipment will be used to thoroughly dry flexible endoscopes like upper and lower scopes, ENT, and respiratory bronchoscopes before storing them in a HEPA-filtered cabinet.

The contractor must comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, provide new and unused equipment, and deliver installation and clinical training upon delivery. The government will inspect and potentially perform operational tests to ensure equipment performance. Delivery is to be made to the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, specifically to Belinda Avila in Building 10, Room B1N254. The purchase supports the Sterile Processing Section's critical process of ensuring patient safety by properly cleaning and preparing medical instruments between patient uses.

STATEMENT OF WORK

PROJECT TITLE: Sterile Processing Section EndoDry Cabinets

DEPARTMENT: National Institutes of Health, Clinical Center, Sterile Processing Section, Nursing Department

GENERAL: This is a one-time request to purchase EndoDry cabinets for the Sterile Processing

Section within the Nursing Department. There will be supervision by the sterile processing supervisor while the company uncrates and connects the cabinets to the existing instrument air outlets and power upon arrival. There is no site prep needed for this requirement as the department is currently prepared to receive the cabinets and all utility requirements are currently in place.

BACKGROUND: National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the primary federal agency for conducting and supporting medical research. Helping to lead the way toward important medical discoveries that improve people's health and save lives, NIH scientists investigate ways to prevent disease as well as the causes, treatments, and even cures for common and rare diseases. Composed of 27 institutes and centers, the NIH provides leadership and financial support to researchers in all fifty states and throughout the world.

The Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, is the nation's largest hospital devoted entirely clinical research. It is a national resource that makes it possible to rapidly translate scientific observations and laboratory discoveries into new approaches for diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease. Approximately 1,500 studies are in progress at the NIH Clinical Center. Approximately, half of the studies are the first tests of new drugs or medical treatments in humans. The rest are natural history studies which include many rare diseases. These long-term studies lead to a better understanding of how diseases develop and result in improvements in prevention and treatment.

The Biomedical Engineering and Property Management Section (BEIP) manages the maintenance, calibration, safety, and performance monitoring of clinical and nonclinical equipment. BEIP ensures that all clinical equipment meets regulatory agency(s) regulations and industry standards. Additionally, it repairs and maintains patient care and non-patient care nonmedical equipment. The section works closely with our nurse consultant’s office and other pertinent Clinical Center committees in forecasting, planning, and integrating current and future clinical equipment requirements for researchers.

The Sterile Processing Section within NIH CC Department of Perioperative Medicine provides cleaning, sterilization, or high-level disinfection for over 42 customers and the Operating Room for the Clinical Center. This critical process is essential to ensure patients are not harmed from dirty instruments or medical devices. The Sterile Processing Section uses an EndoDry cabinet to thoroughly dry flexible endoscopes prior to hanging them in a hepa filtered cabinet. This process is ideal when turning over scopes in-between patients.

Requirements: The Sterile Processing Section within the NIH CC Nursing Department is requesting the purchase of additional EndoDry cabinets to support the drying and storage of over

50 flexible endoscopes. This includes but is not limited to Upper and lower scopes, ENT, and

Respiratory bronchoscopes. The sterile processing space has been completely renovated and site prepped to accommodate all the cabinets being requested. This is a one-time purchase of the following items:
