About this file
This specification document outlines technical requirements for Headworks Screenings and Grit Dumpsters for the Spanish Valley Water Reclamation Facility (SVWRF) in Utah. The procurement requests quotations for two self-contained, integral dumpster units equipped with internal shaftless screw conveyors designed to receive, convey, and distribute municipal wastewater screenings and grit. Each unit must have a 20 cubic-yard capacity, be road-worthy and leak-proof, and interface with Republic Services hauler equipment and the facility's existing electrical control systems. The specification references American Bulk Conveying Model 20 Auger-Dumpster as the baseline equipment or approved equal, with acceptable alternative container manufacturers including Rocky Mountain Welding. Quotations are due by August 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM, submitted via email to tworthen@svwater.com, and must include anticipated schedules for submittals and manufacturing timeframes. The supplier must deliver and commission the equipment at SVWRF, provide factory certification of functionality prior to shipment, conduct on-site inspection and adjustment, and deliver a minimum three-hour training session to facility personnel. Equipment warranty covers one year from startup acceptance or 18 months from delivery, whichever is longer.
Technical specifications require construction from ASTM A36 carbon steel with exterior ferrous surfaces coated with high-build epoxy resin (minimum 16-mil dry film thickness) and interior surfaces protected with phenolic epoxy coating. The shaftless screw conveyor must be cold-formed high-strength alloy steel designed for 100-percent trough loading at maximum motor horsepower with screenings density of 70 pounds per cubic foot. All equipment and wiring must comply with Class I, Division 1, Group D hazardous location requirements, Ontario Electrical Safety Code Section 18-100 (22nd Edition 1998), and CSA certification. Power requirements specify 600 VAC, NEMA 7 connectors with three 20-ampere pins for motor power and six 15-ampere pins for 120-volt controls. Each dumpster includes spare parts: one replacement liner, one complete replacement screw, and one motor. Bidders must note any deviations from specifications as exceptions in their quotations.

The roof structure shall contain an integral stainless steel trough (for the shaftless screw conveyor), with a minimum thickness ¼-inch. Liners for the screw conveyor trough shall be composed of an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene sintered with an anti-wear filler. The liner thickness shall be a minimum of 5/8-inch. The roof structure and trough shall be designed to allow removal of the screw conveyor and liners for maintenance and replacement. The trough shall have five discharge points, one at each end of the conveyor and three equally spaced between the end discharge points. Covers shall have two hinged inspection ports, one at the drive end of the conveyor to view conveyor operation and another port in the cover to view the inside of the container. The cover shall also have a 6-inch diameter by 6-inch long Sch. 40 steel pipe stub for connection to an odorous air collection system.
H. The integral shaftless screw shall be a cold-formed high strength alloy steel spiral. The spiral flighting shall be designed to convey material without a center shaft and designed with the stability to prevent distortion and jumping in the trough. SUPPLIER shall demonstrate by submission of calculations that, at its torsional rating, the stress in the spiral flighting does not exceed 30 percent of the Fy value in the extreme fiber of the flight material. The torque rating of the spiral flighting shall exceed the maximum torque output of the drive motor. SUPPLIER shall further demonstrate that at 250 percent of the motor nameplate horsepower rating the drive train cannot produce more torque than 250 percent of the spiral flighting's torsional rating, and that the "spring effect" of the spiral shall not exceed +0.1 inches per 1-foot of length at maximum load conditions. The spiral flighting shall consist of a dual spiral, cold formed in sections from continuous flat hot-rolled bars of 2.5” x ¾” and 1.5” x 5/8” min cross section, 80,000 psi min yield strength, and 220 min

J. The spiral flighting shall be connected to the drive shaft by welding the spirals to a 3/4" min. circular torque plate properly reinforced with a curved gusset plate for 180°. A separate connection plate shall be bored with a hole equal to the shaft and the drive shaft shall be concentrically welded to the plate to effectively transmit torque and bolted to the torque plate.
