Description of items to be acquired:

The United States Air Force has a requirement for two (2) vertical tail fitting tapered bolt torques for the F-35. The vendor shall build custom torque tools that are integrated with a lifting device to position and hold the torque tool during the install and removal of lug bolts without the mechanic applying the counter torque. The current method is 30-mins torque draw-ups per bolt with an average of 80 torque ratchet repetitions. The new method will be 20 seconds torque draw up per bolt in a weightless and non-reaction torque environment. This will decrease operator fatigue by 99% and reduce operator torque time from two (2) hours to 1.3 minutes. The new custom Alum-a-Lift with tool balance arm will eliminate the risk of potential torque motor handling injuries. It will also eliminate government personnel from having to climb and descend stairs carrying a 60-pound torque motor. Potential damage to the aircraft while installing or removing the torque motor during bold installation will also be eliminated.

Alum-A-lift customized a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) lifting and holding device that holds the torqueing tool designed by American Assembly. American Assembly is now the prime contractor for the unit and Alum-A-Lift is the sub-contractor.
