About this award
The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) received a $418,432 Project Grant award under the Institute of Museum and Library Services' (IMLS) Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program (CFDA 45.313) to develop, test, and disseminate a toolkit that equips librarians to navigate privacy issues related to preteen engagement with technology.
The research team, in collaboration with the Maryland State Library Agency, Wisconsin Library Services, a team of advisors, and the American Library Association, will translate a theory-based privacy literacy framework into a publicly available toolkit and test it at four public libraries. Through co-design workshops with librarians, the project aims to foster a community of practice for youth service librarians to exchange privacy knowledge and support. This work will contribute insights and materials to help librarians address technology-related privacy issues and respect the diverse needs of youth.
