This Project Grant award from the National Eye Institute (NEI), under the Vision Research federal grant program (CFDA 93.867), is providing $306,462 to Ifocus Imaging LLC to develop a software platform called OCT-ART-DR. The platform will automate the diagnosis and staging of diabetic retinopathy using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) imaging and artificial intelligence. The key products to be delivered under this award include: 1) Improved AI-based segmentation of OCTA image features relevant to diabetic retinopathy, such as non-perfusion area, macular retinal fluid, and retinal neovascularization; and 2) An end-to-end interpretable AI framework for automatically diagnosing diabetic retinopathy, referable diabetic retinopathy, and vision-threatening diabetic retinopathy. These capabilities will be integrated into the OCT-ART-DR platform for seamless use in clinical, research, and reading center settings. The goal is to enable more reliable and efficient diabetic retinopathy management through the adoption of this OCTA-based AI diagnostic technology.
