The goal is to create imaging agents capable of tracking the stepwise process of glutamine metabolism, which is abnormal in various diseases including cancer, diabetes, and neurodegeneration. The 3-year project will design, synthesize, and optimize novel 15N-labeled probes to target the conversion of glutamine to glutamate and the production of alpha-ketoglutarate and 2-hydroxyglutarate. The developed hyperpolarized 15N-MRI agents are expected to provide enhanced in vivo imaging of glutamine metabolism, leading to new metabolic biomarkers for diseases like cancer.
