The award funds a project examining severe maternal morbidity risk in New Jersey through analysis of linked birth records and hospital discharge data. The...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) awarded Rutgers The State University of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Health Sciences School of Nursing, $3.297 million in federal research funding on August 1, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865). The research investigates mechanistic pathways linking gut microbiota alterations to neurodevelopmental impairment in HIV-exposed, uninfected infants (IHEU). The project...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded $790,289 to The Regents Of The University Of Colorado (University Of Colorado-Denver) on August 1, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) to investigate mechanisms protecting primordial follicles in human ovarian cortex through the integrated stress response pathway. The project addresses the significant loss (up to 80%) of primordial follicles following ovarian tissue...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), a component of the Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health, awarded $148,994 to the University of Wisconsin System (operating through its University of Wisconsin - Madison Division) on January 1, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865, assistance type Project Grant F31HD119998). The recipient will conduct research investigating the role of the...
- Federal Project Grant Award Summary Rutgers The State University of New Jersey's School of Nursing received a $1.32 million Project Grant from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) to conduct research on the impact of homelessness and housing services on maternal and infant health. The award, effective September 12, 2025, through August 31, 2027, will support...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded Northwestern University $240,000 on September 1, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research Projects program (CFDA 93.HDR) to develop ovarian somatic organoids as a drug discovery model for reproductive longevity. The research addresses ovarian aging, characterized by loss of egg quantity and quality leading to infertility and altered endocrine function. The funded work builds on the recipient's...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded Rowan University $408,380 on September 1, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) to develop hypoxia-responsive lipid nanoparticles for delivery of placental growth factor messenger RNA and soluble FMS-like tyrosine kinase-1 small interfering RNA to treat preeclampsia. The research addresses preeclampsia through targeted drug delivery to diseased placental tissue. The project...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded The Washington University $922,870 on July 1, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865, Assistance Listing 93.HDR). The award funds research to define the molecular mechanisms by which age-associated increases in ovarian tissue stiffness drive follicle inflammation and impair oocyte quality and fertility. The research tests the hypothesis that follicles detect age-related...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded The Regents of the University of California, San Francisco $123,147 on September 1, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865). The award funds research investigating granulosa-derived RNAs as targets for oocyte rejuvenation and age-related oocyte quality infertility. The project comprises three aims: interrogating the mechanism by which RNAs transfer from granulosa cells to...
The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey $432,421 on August 1, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) to evaluate the protective efficacy and genomic stability of a checkpoint kinase 2 inhibitor (CK2II) against cyclophosphamide-induced gonadotoxicity in mouse and human ovarian follicles. The research addresses off-target damage to ovarian germ cells in female cancer survivors undergoing chemotherapy, which depletes primordial follicles and can result in primary ovarian insufficiency, endocrine dysfunction, and infertility in prepubertal girls and women of reproductive age. Prior studies demonstrated that oocytes pretreated with CK2II before cyclophosphamide exposure survived and progressed into growing follicles, preserving ovarian function in female mice. This study investigates whether CK2II inhibition can serve as an adjuvant therapeutic intervention while assessing potential adverse effects on genomic stability in both germ and somatic cells, given that checkpoint kinase 2 plays a critical role in regulating cell cycle and maintaining genomic stability in response to DNA damage. Performance occurs at the recipient's Newark, New Jersey location. The period of performance runs from August 1, 2026, through April 30, 2031. The award is classified as a Project Grant, an assistance type. Rutgers operates as the research-performing entity within its Robert Wood Johnson Health Sciences organizational structure.
