- The National Institute on Aging, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, awarded $691,306 to Trustees of Indiana University (Indiana University Indianapolis) on August 15, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866). The award funds research integrating real-world evidence from electronic medical records, cell line assays, and single-cell omics via deep reinforcement learning to identify repurposable drugs for Alzheimer's disease treatment. The project applies deep transfer...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded the Trustees of Indiana University $1.232 million on February 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to develop AI-driven virtual screening pipelines and computational tools for identifying blood-brain-barrier-penetrant drug candidates against Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The funded research encompasses three interconnected aims: developing AI-driven virtual screening pipelines incorporating small-molecule foundation...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded Indiana University Indianapolis $109,795 on August 20, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to evaluate amyloid dynamics and cerebral amyloid angiopathy burden. The project examines amyloid plaque redistribution and cerebral amyloid angiopathy development through genetic and pharmacological methods, and tests whether dietary and exercise interventions mitigate cerebral amyloid angiopathy burden. The research evaluates glial-based mechanisms...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded $431,996 to the Trustees of Indiana University, doing business as Indiana University Indianapolis, on September 20, 2025, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to develop and deliver INSPIRE (Investigating Neurosciences, A Summer Program to Ignite Research and Education), an immersive summer research education program designed to attract and retain undergraduate science majors pursuing careers in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias research....
- The National Institute on Aging awarded Trustees of Indiana University $674,455 on September 3, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to create the first longitudinal platform tracking home health agency ownership linked to health outcomes for people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The project will build a data infrastructure addressing a documented research gap: while six million Medicare beneficiaries rely on home health agencies annually and people living...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded Trustees of Indiana University (Indiana University Indianapolis) $624,837 on February 15, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to investigate the role of the MR1/MAIT cell axis in Alzheimer's disease pathology and neuroinflammation. Work is performed in Indianapolis, Indiana through January 31, 2031. The research defines how MR1 molecules and mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells contribute to brain pathology in Alzheimer's disease...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded Trustees of Indiana University $607,706 under Aging Research (CFDA 93.866) on March 1, 2026, to investigate short-term practice effects in subjective cognitive decline as markers of Alzheimer's disease progression and biomarker status. The project examines whether individuals with subjective cognitive decline demonstrate smaller short-term practice effects than cognitively normal peers, and whether these practice effects correlate with plasma biomarkers of...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded Trustees of Indiana University $433,593 on July 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to integrate Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Medicare fee-for-service and Medicare Advantage inpatient data to improve hospital quality, outcomes, and disparities measurement. The project addresses a measurement gap created by Medicare Advantage enrollment growth to 55 percent of beneficiaries with Medicare Parts A and B coverage. Despite this...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded Purdue University $387,183 on September 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to develop mass spectrometry-based proteomics strategies examining post-translational modifications related to protein aggregation and extracellular vesicle-mediated propagation in neurodegenerative disease, with emphasis on Alzheimer's disease. The recipient will establish a novel proteomics platform to profile N-terminal acetylation landscapes in primary...
- The National Institute on Aging, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, awarded $435,875 to Trustees of Indiana University (Indiana University Indianapolis) on April 15, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) for development and validation of a humanized SERPINA3 mouse model to advance Alzheimer's disease research. The award funds creation of a transgenic mouse model that expresses human SERPINA3 in an Alzheimer's disease context, enabling in vivo testing of...
The National Institute on Aging awarded Trustees of Indiana University (doing business as Indiana University Indianapolis) $791,039 on September 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to develop computational methods enabling patient-centered prognostic profiling for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias that accounts for individual cognitive resilience in response to neuropathological changes. The work will model each patient's distinct connectome architecture and cognitive profile in ADRD progression using a latent space framework; identify novel molecular signatures influencing cellular pathways such as microglia and astrocytes that mediate diffusion processes contributing to heterogeneous AD progression; and validate model-derived ADRD progression subtypes to determine whether medication effects can be more precisely estimated within stratified patient cohorts. The project will develop, test, and implement innovative open-source software to model longitudinal network diffusion, selection, and co-evolution mechanisms between large protein molecules and neuroimaging-derived brain connections, with the software to be freely available to research communities. Performance occurs in Indianapolis, Indiana, with a period of performance extending from September 1, 2026, through April 30, 2031.
