The National Cancer Institute (NCI) awarded a 5-year, $3,537,456 Project Grant under the Cancer Cause and Prevention Research program (CFDA 93.393) to The Regents of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) to conduct research on optimizing subtype-specific breast cancer screening and prevention. The project aims to develop improved risk assessment models that can predict the specific type of breast cancer a woman is likely to develop, in order to tailor screening and prevention recommendations. Key objectives include expanding enrollment in the WISDOM study to 95,000 women, developing enhanced polygenic risk scores and deep learning models for subtype-specific risk prediction, and evaluating the impact of these improved risk models on screening efficiency and efficacy. UCSF is collaborating with several sub-awardees, including Erasmus MC, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and the University of North Carolina, to contribute specialized expertise in modeling, imaging analysis, and genetic data analysis.
